While I agree with sandman that we might have a team that gets pushed around, lucic was not the answer going forward. IMO he’s not an everyday 4th liner at this point. You need toughness but you also need them to be able to keep up with the play.

I don't think it's a good idea to lock in middle 6 wingers long term. A good reminder on our own team is Mangiapane. I know more than a few of us wanted to lock in Mangi long term after his last deal. After the season he and the Flames just had, can you imagine if he was on an 8 year 6-6.5M contract? We'd have him on the list with Hubby and Kadri as anchor contracts and the outlook on our team would be even more bleak.
Hoping Sharangovich turns into a 30-30 guy with us. Reward him with a 3×5.5M deal if he does.
|
The thing about Mangipane is they should have locked him long term like they did Andersson. If he was on a 6 year 3-4 million deal that would have been good value. I can understand being a bit more hesitant with that type of player but I think his 5 on 5 production at that time was quite strong and was worth the gamble. I guess the Flames cap situation also played a role then though. They just didn't have the space to commit that type of money. Another example of bridge deals biting you later on.

Most of the Flames grittier players are their smaller players. I think the defence has a decent mix of some toughness mixed with puck movers. The forward group is quite small though, not the quickest, and lacks toughness. I think that would become a problem if they did make playoffs.

And who knows if Mangiapane would have signed such a deal.

he was probably pushing for much the same number over a long term. And a higher number short term. He was coming off of a fantastic year and players with similar production made more. They were fast enough apart that he filed arbitration papers.

Are you talking about his last contract, or the previous one?

Gotta be Bruins entering the chat. Hopefully there are 2-3 teams interested in our Centres.
Probably too early for a Western team.

Trade Backlund and I'd put Coleman with Kadri. I think that would help stabilize Kadri a bit.

If Tod is there have to think that some of the players being discussed are very young (last 2 drafts).

Tod Button and Steve Pleau are on the call? Why are scouts involved with Lindholm decision? That's a 180 from what i thought would happen.

It would suggest trading the player is still very much an option.

I think the fans (customers) would be very accepting of a Lindholm trade as long as Craig doesn’t get completely fleeced. The owners (bosses) demand winning so it would be tough to see a path to being a decent team with Lindholm gone.
I hope they take the long term approach. I would be okay with an extension for Lindholm if the deal started with an 8 but I am still on the retool bandwagon and think maximizing the returns on Lindholm and Hanifin outweigh 8 year extensions.

Steve Pleau (Head pro scout) would be my guess.
Based on the names, sounds like a trade could be getting discussed

There has been some smoke lately about Detroit being interested in Hanifin, have not heard anything in regards to Lindholm.
