I don’t think this warrants it’s own thread, but Brad Richardson joins the Flames as a professional scout:

I kinda like how the trade rumors and speculation thread is also the general discussion thread.

The Flames scouted him a lot before his draft, had they've known they wouldn't have a small shifty skilled winger in the fold they may have taken him over Ronni. Now that Columbus has Gaudreau they might be willing to part with him.

Just like Stankoven, Dumais' stock is probably going to skyrocket after the world juniors. Cmon Connie, go get him now

If we are in a playoff position come the deadline, I further do not anticipate any moves to trade away Hanifin, Lindholm.
Backlund (as per my understanding) has earned the goodwill to walk away as he will be 35 next March and will have given 16 years of service to the organization.
I will say though ... if Flames are in a playoff spot and they bounce back....I expect Lindholm to sign long term. The only wildcard is Hanifin at that point.

Regardless of what Conroy said, he wasn't ever drawing a line in the sand. Decent trades were simply not available in this cap environment.
He'll make a trade before the season starts of he likes it. Otherwise, the trade deadline is the place for him to get decent value. I guess the question remains what happens if Calgary is in a very good spot at that time.

Then we probably follow the recipe.
Pick up a third/fourth line winger and a six/seven spot dman. Get bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. Lose all of our UFAs for nothing.

Dumais isn't your typical small shifty winger but has some sky high potential.
Yes he is extremely skilled but he is built like a little fire hydrant and plays a very north south game. He is like Gaudreau in the sense that he is agressive in pursuing the puck holders and has very high level skill but I doubt he will run into same problems as say Phillips or Nicolas Petan.
He needs to work on his speed (more technique rather than effort) but I doubt he gets pushed off the puck as easily as other smaller forwards tend to. He is also already very good along the boards and is a relentless forechecker. He plays a way bigger than his size. If I remember correctly his coach told the media at some point that he was thier best and most consistent forechecker.
I would be ecstatic if we got Dumais but even then he comes with some risks. He needs to fix his stride (confident he could under our staff as Pelletier has taken huge steps in this regard) and needs to continue to put on size to play his game. Dumais likes to hold onto the puck and that's hard to do when you're 180 pounds and lack elite speed. He really fits the mold of players that the flames have been pursuing in recent drafts (high effort high IQ).

Maybe not this year. But if they are forced to trade lindy and can't get a hockey trade then how do they not rebuild.
If they decide to let lindy play out his contract and he walks it just makes the rebuild way longer and will probably result in an embarrassing #### show.
I'm die hard, but if they let another top line player walk I can't imagine watching games for a few years.

Why do you think Hanifin would be a wildcard? He’s said he’s not re-signing. Are you saying he might change his mind.
And why do you think Lindholm would re-sign?

Forget rebuild, we should be looking to maximize assets. You cannot constrain our return by looking to fill roster holes, not when you're trading a foundational piece like Lindholm.
You don't have to be in rebuild or win now camp to understand that.

Agreed. Hopefully, if these players are to be traded, all types of offers will be considered. A great example would be getting a player that looks ready to break out… like Jarvis or Johnson. That’s a re-tool option where the team gets younger and bets on a young player that has shown strong development at the NHL level. Obviously to get either of those guys, there would have to be an extension in place for Lindholm (even then, I doubt Carolina or Dallas would go for it).
But the point is, I hope Conroy is open to multiple offer types… so that he can choose one with the highest overall value. Keep in mind… rebuilding assets such as picks/prospects could be used in separate trades to acquire “win now” players if the team chooses to do that. So any returns for Lindholm are not limited to just being one type of end product (i.e. rebuild type or “win now” type)

It feels like you're both right.
They'll go for the playoffs themselves right into a rebuild.

They will eventually rebuild though. This is just not a good enough team to compete for more than another year or two. Then we can start a Sharks style rebuild where we have some good vets on long term contracts who can mentor the young guys during our 6 year rebuild. Best of both worlds, go for it now and rebuild later.

By the time they decide to rebuild they will have squandered assets and value. M
Hence the paradox that the team is forever trapped in. Just will not manage it right. And it is all on Edwards.

David Pagnotta said today that Lindholm is interested in extending for 8 years. Lindholms camp looking for close to 9MM and Calgary coming in around the 8.25MM mark.
I don’t know how reliable he is.

I’ve never thought David Pagnotta had inside information about the Flames. And I don’t think this information makes sense. The Flames made an offer a long time ago. If this amount of money was separating the two sides, couldn’t a compromise have been found in that amount of time?

If that is true, then I’d don’t see how a deal doesn’t get done.
