Edit: Dobber’s summary of Nikishin doesn’t lend you to think of him as an offensive dynamo, and that’s the thing that makes him sound so amazing to me: “A big-bodied defenceman with an aggressive mindset and a big slapshot.“

If they’re serious about going all in though, Lindholm’s their guy. Forces Necas on the RW where he belongs.
I’d happily take Nikishin + 1st + roster filler for Lindholm or Hanifin.

I suspect the goal is to ice a competitive team this year. The way many GM’s approach things is they’ll figure it out when the time comes. In fact, I’d say that happens to almost all of them at some point.
Whether it’s Lindholm’s, who I suspect Gaudreau is pulling for or Schiefele, I’d be surprised if the BJ’s aren’t looking to improve at C, right now.

Even if they would be looking for a center (which I don't see) they are much better of getting a veteran C with 2-3 years left on his deal than Lindholm who ties them up for eight.

Yeah, probably not. If the Canes are moving on from Pesce they’ll have Nikishkin slated in for the top-4 when he comes over the NA.

Lindholm and Hanifin for Pesce, a power forward and a little known prospect who will soon be a Norris finalist, but refuses to sign with us...
Does that make us a development farm for Carolina?

I don’t think I’ve ever heard an NHL GM or executive say ‘we have too many centre’s’. Bear in mind Boone Jenner was their 1C last year…..
Also worth noting Lindholm’s was a RW his first season with the Flames.

I’ve read that the Hurricanes have actually told teams that he isn’t available. But he’d still be the prospect I’d want from Carolina.

Even if the Canes aren’t willing to part with Nikishin, they also have D Scott Morrow (who they would also be reluctant to move), and a pair of quality European defenders in Aleksi Heimosalmi, and Simon Forsmark. The latter two are no slouches in the two-way defenseman category.

The Penguins may have an old lineup, but when you look at it on paper it doesn't look that bad. A playoff team imo.
Without Guentzel in the lineup:
Rakell - Crosby - Rust
R. Smith - Malkin - Carter
O'Connor - Eller - Acciari
Nieto - Pitlick - A. Nylander
When Guentzel returns, that allows you to bump down Rakell to the 2nd line and Carter as the 3C and Eller as the 4C. They've got decent depth. Not #1 team in the East depth, but depth to be a #3 or WC1 team.
On defense you have Graves / Karlsson, Pettersen / Letang and POJ / Ruhwedel with T. Smith as a decent 6/7, and a guy that was highly touted when first getting drafted.
The biggest wildcard imo is Jarry, is he going to return to form? Or is he a mediocre goaltender?
It's hard to know what the next "big move" is. Are they willing to part with more picks? Is R. Smith on the way out as a piece to be flipped?

They have Alex Nedeljkovic there now at 1.5 per.
Unlikely they try and upgrade a backup G who would cost more against the cap as well as assets to acquire.

I see no fit at all at this point between the Flames and the Pens

I’d be willing to give up quite a bit for Yager.
Brayden Yager + Marcus Petersson + Ndjelkovic (sp?)
For
Hanifin + Vladar + ???

As Toonage said, the Flames and Penguins are likely not a fit anymore. It makes no sense for the Pens to pay a top end prospect they just drafted, who they know they're going to need in the next few seasons as Crosby and Malkin continue to age. The gap between Vladar and Ned is not enough for the Pens to be adding anything substantial. The one thing Vladar has is an extra year on term and would likely be a better 1B to Jarry than Ned. But, I think the Pens still roll with Ned and hope he regains some kind of form when he was a goaltender in Carolina. Goalies are so volatile.
Lastly, I think Pettersson with an extra year at 4m isn't bad at all for Pittsburgh. I'm sure they'd be happy to acquire Hanifin, as I do think Hanifin would absolutely bump Graves down to the middle pairing. However, at the cost of Yager or another 1st to make a deal like this happen doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh. If they were wanting to acquire Hanifin, they should have made a better offer at the draft if they didn't already.
The Flames need to remain patient. Karlsson barely gor traded yesterday. I think that wakes up the market a little and hopefully a contending team or a team in desperate need of a #3 D comes calling.

If the Flames were to trade Lindholm to Columbus, I’d try to get Jordan Dumais as part of a package. Right handed RW with a 37 NHLe in his draft year and a 51 NHLe in his draft +1, in which he was QMJHL MVP.
