If the flames do trade Lindholm before the season, what teams would still be in on him?
The most obvious one IMO is Boston but most people think their picks and prospects are too underwhelming to get the deal done. And I agree for the most part. However, if the bruins had to make the pick a 2025 or 2026 first round pick, it does not make that a less valuable pick. If anything, I would think those years would see the bruins in the decline and would lead to a better pick for the flames.
Other teams I could see in on Lindholm are Dallas, Minnesota, Carolina, Detroit and possibly Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is in real tough in terms of picks/prospects. They would absolutely have to include Yager and, similar to Boston, the first round pick they could offer is not until 2025. But if the flames could somehow get Yager + 2025 first round pick (lottery protected) from Pittsburgh… that would be a good return IMO considering the market.
Dallas has picks and good young players and they seem motivated to make change to get their team to another level. Doubt they would trade Wyatt Johnson but if he was included, it would be a huge win for the flames if he was the centrepiece in the return.
Minnesota definitely needs some help at centre and they could use what Lindholm brings. Rossi + 2024 first round pick would be a great return I think.
Carolina has been rumoured to be in on Lindholm since before the TDL. They have some good prospects but I would just ask for Seth Jarvis 1-for-1. Carolina likely says no though.
I think Detroit is getting desperate to become a playoff team again and they still don’t have much in terms of centres on their team that are ready for a top #1/2 spot. I could see them making a push for Lindholm. They have lots of great prospects in their system to choose from as a centrepiece to a trade for Lindholm.

I'd see if NYR is interested. Chytil is OK but Lindholm would be ideal behind Mika Z. And then they can put Chytil on wing, where he might actually be better.

Good point. I could see the rangers being interested as well. Laf + 2024 first round pick would be a solid return IMO.

The other thing is Chytil is LHS so you could play either guy on draws depending on the side of the ice you’re on, like with Monahan.
One wonders how the Laf negotiations are going and if they just want to trade rights.

I'd do Backlund and Tanev at 50% for Goodrow, Lafreniere, and Schneider.
Taking on the Goodrow contract and getting two very young players to retool with would be a great trade to make. Goodrow, Coleman, and Pelletier would be a good third line to roll with.
New York rolling with Panarin - Zib - X, Kreider - Trochek - X, and Chytil - Backlund - X (fill in the X's with Wheeler, Vesey, and Kakko), and you've got some solid depth. Additionally, Miller - Fox, Lindgren - Trouba, and Gustafsson - Tanev would be a solid top 6 D.

Well yeah that’s an amazing deal for Calgary
Doubt New York trades two young guys like that for two pending free agents

Dallas has negative cap space. I'm not sure their way of helping solve that problem that is to trade a great player on his ELC for a more expensive player who will need a huge 8 year extension.

I think Backlund wanting to win a cup would sign for a lot less the following season, and Schneider behind Fox and Trouba doesn’t make sense at all for him to wait until Trouba regresses to the point that he’s a bottom pairing D. I doubt that happens anytime soon.
The Goodrow contract is not good. But if it got us to stay on the line if we took it on I think they’d consider it. Even if it meant us adding a 2nd/3rd or maybe one of our decent prospects not in the top 5 range.

You are absolutely thinking about this the wrong way. You are thinking like the Flames are rebuilding, they are not. If the Flames deal Lindholm they are going to want a top 6 C back or a young player that will develop into one. Yes, with Hanifin they would absolutely trade him for futures because they can plug Kylington into his spot but if they can't sign Lindholm they are going to make a hockey trade with him, not a futures trade.

i fully expect the flames to not make any major trades and go into the season with the current roster and see how it plays out.
this hasnt changed since i last posted the same thing.
conroy believe this team can compete and is going to give them a chance under a new coach. the only real significant change is sharangovich in place of toffoli and Sutter's favourites along with Sutter have also been removed from the team.

I sure hope they're not prescribing that for the return. Talk about limiting yourself. No wonder we haven't seen a deal.

It is a massive win for Calgary and not a chance the Rangers trade a guy they picked 1st overall 3 years ago and a guy they picked in the first round for 2 pending UFA’s who will be 35 even if they dump a bad deal in the process. I am not sure they make that deal if you change Backlund with Lindholm?

Which would be fair in different circumstances. We were told that having X number of pending UFAs was an unacceptable situation yet we're still in the same boat.

I don't see any deals being made at this point in the summer either.
Not sure what is happening with Lindholm but I wonder if he wants to get to Calgary and get into the new culture and see what its like before committing long term blindly without a chance to be in this environment.
The offers are probably not great either.
It would be nice to have a group of players we know will be here going forward without their futures in lingo seems like it would be a wasted start to a fresh start.

It’s extremely difficult to make a major deal in this cap environment. Outside of the short window of the draft and the trade deadline, most teams are capped out. That means any significant deal involves interlocking cap management manoeuvres.
Look at the Karlsson deal. The only asset of that trade moved for on-ice value was Karlsson. The other pieces were an extraordinarily complicated exercise in cap management for the three teams involved.

Perhaps I was shooting for the stars with Schneider and Tanev involved, but Laf is getting buried, and Backlund makes a lot more sense for their window. 1st OA or not he hasn’t lived up to that hype. Either he or Kakko imo are going to be dealt.
As for Lindholm they don’t have the necessary space to hold onto him longer than this year.

I think Conroy painted himself into a corner and will have to talk that line back a bit which I'm sure he will once September/training camp rolls around. I expect a line of "we're not going to firesale our assets, not going to trade for the sake of trading etc...".
If we are in a playoff position come the deadline, I further do not anticipate any moves to trade away Hanifin, Lindholm.
Backlund (as per my understanding) has earned the goodwill to walk away as he will be 35 next March and will have given 16 years of service to the organization.
I will say though ... if Flames are in a playoff spot and they bounce back....I expect Lindholm to sign long term. The only wildcard is Hanifin at that point.
