Doesn't it also void cash winnings that would otherwise go to his opponent for winning? I would say it's more likely he's just a complete jerk that is happy to screw his opponent out of money as opposed to voiding bets.

No, i think the winner would still get the prize money and ranking points.

I could swear there were some issues in recent years where players had retired and the opponent moving on was only awarded points and not the prize money after the fact.

I can't seem to find anything on the matter but maybe someone else has heard of this?

We have some intriguing matches on the docket for Friday in Hamburg:

Casper Ruud vs. Arthur Fils
Zverev vs. Luca Van Assche

The two young guys from France continue their fine play in 2023. I'd like to see them both win on Friday (nothing against Ruud, he's one of the nicest and classiest guys on tour).

Also, a very strong field for the upcoming Montreal tourney:

Lehecka is legit, but it's tough to see Dominic struggling to put a string of good matches together.

Daniel Altmaier with the biggest win of his career (rankings wise) as he advances over Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-2. Altmaier played fantastic and Rublev looked like a guy who wanted some rest before the North American hard court swing.

Arthur Fils just bageled Casper Ruud in Hamburg. Amazing tennis from the 19 year old Frenchman.

By the way, Ivan Ljubičić (former coach of Fed) has taken on a new role with the French Tennis Federation and is watching young Arthur in Hamburg today.

Fantastic Fils finishes Ruud in straight sets 6-0 6-4. Incredible performance.

lol - He still has at least one more match to win this week and that's against Zverev on Saturday.

I mean in general. France has had some great junior players who never made it on the big stage.

For sure. I thought Geoffrey Blancaneaux was going to be something special (beat Felix in the French Open junior final in 2016), but just hasn't been able to make it on the ATP tour. Fils has big weapons though (serve and forehand), he looks like the real deal.

GasquetM, Tsonga and Monfils were better juniors than Nadal and Murray, same ages.

Was supposed to be the new Muskateers.

Yeah, it's funny how some guys peak earlier than others. Vasek was a better junior than Milos, but Milos had a much more successful ATP career. Alexis Galarneau got the better of Felix during their junior days as well.
