This has to be prime vacation time for NHL front offices, it is for everyone else it seems.

I very much doubt GMs are on holiday just yet. Arbitration hearings are coming up and significant UFAs like Tarasenko, Dumba, and Tatar are still available. Lots of RFAs still to sign.

Sure, but trades seem to he at a standstill. The teams with the cap space likely know the ball is in their court.

Friedman and Kypreos seem to be confirming my info I had heard about what the Matthews camp is looking for I posted back at the beginning of the month.

Doubt he signs for 8, he's only 25 and is setting himself up for 11 or 12 more years of large cash.
On a side note, McDavid must loose sleep for signing an 8 year deal in crap town

When I said he wants to ensure a final 8 year contract, I meant that's why he wants a 3 year deal, so he'll set himself up for that large 8 year deal when the 3 year deal ends.

Most GMs would have no interest. For the few that do, they already know what these players are - a couple phone calls is all it takes to get them signed. And those calls can be made from a boat.

I'll throw this in here. Don't think it warrants it's own thread. A couple of weeks back, Huberdeau hosted his annual golf tournament. Some interviews on that website;
https://www.fondationcitedelasante.c...than-huberdeau
Found this quote curious;
Quote:
“We were competitive, but not everyone gave their best. Me, I had misery. Not everyone gave 100%, but this season I'm confident,” he clarified
|
It doesn't sound great, but could be a translation issue.

This is normal in the cap era.
Trades happen from the draft to about a week after free agency.
Then nothing major happens until maybe training camp, and then the wave of moves at the trade deadline.

At age 29 and a year after McDavid resets the standard. I doubt he budges on the 3 years, BT only hope is to get the $13.5 down a bit
