According to the report, Galchenyuk was helped back into the car by a second individual (later identified as his father) and began making erratic movements once inside the car. Galchenyuk told an officer “I will chop all of you f—s” and began to reach under his seat, prompting a warning from the officer.

The officer described a struggle while Galchenyuk was placed under arrest, leading the two officers on the scene to assist in placing him in handcuffs while on the ground.

The detail about his father being there on the scene is interesting.
If he was African American, he would likely be dead for just that alone.

As an aside, a lot of people here are being low key racist towards Russians, and no one really cares. With statements like "lazy Russian", suggesting all Russians are drunks, or asking why would a guy like Sharangovich want to come back home to Belarus for the summer. It doesn't bother me, but I just wanted to point out that it's really easy to be racist when you group an entire nation into one.

Russia’s a country not a race

I suppose I am. Come from a long line of them (Russians, and racists unfortunately). Have a giant old photo of one of my relatives shaking hands with Nicholas II in the basement somewhere that got passed down to me.

Of course not all Russians are racist, but holy hell a lot of them are.

The reason all cops are 'corrupt' is because as soon as someone starts working as a cop he's given a quota he has to bring in to the station's chief monthly so he can keep his job. The rest of the money is his, and it's up to his discretion how much he takes advantage of it.

As for Galchenyuk, it's hard to jump to conclusions because we don't have all of the information. I assume he tried a bribe and it backfired, or perhaps he was under the influence/having a really bad day. Not making excuses for him, just shedding some light on the situation from the other side.
you're not shedding light on the other side, but totally making excuses for him.

it's the culture he comes from. perhaps he had a bad day.
Come on now.
It's what appears to be a entitled and impaired piece of crap saying disgusting things. Sometimes things are exactly as they seem.

FWIW - Galchenyuk was born in the US and represented the US in international hockey. He's spent some time in Russia but probably more of his life in the US. He was drafted in the OHL out of a Chicago under 16 league.

It is open to players even after retirement, per: https://puckpath.com/nhl-player-assistance

I assume he’s still part of the NHLPA

He’s a UFA atm . Same way Kane and Tarasenko are

Weird that all you got out of that was that maybe he shouldn't be allowed or you needed to understand why he was allowed.

Chill out. You're putting words in Locke's mouth. He asked "can he do that", not "he shouldn't be allowed". Those are very different, and it's a fair question since we're not all experts on how the NHLPA works.

Scenario's like this is where you might suspect his alcohol struggles might have played a massive factor in his overall career and how it could have gone.

Big drinking culture in hockey and the NHL and him having a Russian/Belarussian background as well might also contribute to it. You can get away with certain things when you are in your early 20's but when your approaching 30+, it affects you more than you think.

He was involved with some other domestic related issues years ago with his girlfriend at the time, perhaps his wife now?

https://globalnews.ca/news/2448291/a...lence-reports/

He didn't appear to be to blame here but who knows what potentially may have happened with other women and alcohol that contributed to this situation.

Hopefully he can get the help he needs and his career back on track.

Pretty much the same across Eastern Europe. Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary. Black football players have bananas thrown at them in that part of the world.
