and better than any centre we've had since #25 was here some 2+ decades ago.

Missing the playoffs 50% of the time in the last decade is also likely an indicator of what the Flames are.
Markstrom played like a knob all of last year and the Flames missed the playoffs by 2 points.

You get average goaltending - the Flames make the playoffs and then you are good with the Flames re-signing Lindholm?

Suggesting that Eichel wasn't actually a superior replacement would completely nullify the point I was making, so I certainly hope I wasn't secretly trying to make it sound like that.

This a thousand times.
You know who else said the Flames had no elite talent? Repeatedly.

Daryl Sutter.

For sure, that's true. But also, we don't have them anymore.

I'd rather them aspire to be more than a bubble team so no.

Eichel should have been a flame, Gaudreau would likely still be here and maybe even Chucky, nobody on this green earth can tell me Treliving couldn't have beat that package Vegas sent to Buffalo.

Eichel and Gaudreau on the same line would have been special.

Thanks Treliving you idiot!

Apparently Buffalo was hell bent on Krebs as part of the return

They were probably hell bent on Pelletier too, he's the better player.

His mind games were too much.

Acquire a winger who just set an NHL record for most assists for a LW in history yet the team lacked any elite players....

Yup. Sutter said the team needed a high volume of shots every game, in order to make up for our lack of offensive talent. Hence the high number of shots from the perimeter, and lack of creativity.

They wanted Tuch too, not just Kreb’s.

What’s this package you think the Sabres would have taken? How do you know the Sabres would have taken it and how do you know Treliving didn’t offer it?

I don’t think you know any of these things.

They weren’t though. For whatever reason, Krebs was key to the deal.

They were a bubble team with their 2 best players having career worst seasons. Clearly had Markstrom and Huberdeau had average seasons this was a 100pt team and if they had similar years as 2022 the team would have been a top team in the league.

I don't see a reason for all the handwringing. As has been pointed out the Flames had a horrible season from a number of players and a coach who contributed to their demise by driving them into the ditch on many occasions (any time they made it to OT). This is a team that I would actually bet on bouncing back. They need another forward but have the assets to go get one, so they could be a lot better than anyone thinks. I believe that, with the exception of Lindholm, every player that has stated they want out is easily replaceable and the Flames could be better off by trading the malcontents away. Make the deals, recoup the bodies to improve the team now and in the future, and rebound.

Yeah, I am quite sure that they do.

The point is that with even average goaltending the Flames would have been a playoff team last year. With goaltending like what Markstrom delivered the previous season they would have challenged for the Division. In other words, this team is still pretty good.

I very seriously doubt that the Flames felt that strongly about holding on to Pelletier. My guess is that Buffalo does not think he is "the better player."
