I think old stock Canadians need to start accepting that Canada is changing. The vast majority of immigrants coming to Canada are from very religious and very conservative areas of the world.

In Afghanistan, for instance, a woman cannot go outside unless she is covered head-to-toe AND accompanied by a male relative. You think immigrants coming here from those parts have progressive views of LGBT issues?

I am not sure what the solution is - but there is going to be a culture shift in Canada IMO.

I don’t think he was intending to do that, but I do think it’s worth pointing out that the largest contributing factor to social conservatives from other countries feeling like their views and beliefs have a home here is the large population of “old stock Canadians” who have made a home here for those beliefs.

No, certainly not an immigrant only problem. We have Canadians whose families have been here generations who have those views.

My point was that the population of people who have these intolerant LGBT views is growing in this country, not shrinking. And that is concerning. Of course, many people immediately ring the racism alarm bell that we hAtE tHe BrOwN pEoPlE but that is lazy and really just sticking your head in the sand. The poison of American politics certainly isn't helping either.

Confusion would be blaming your favorite boogeyman for beliefs new Canadians may hold when the societies they have come from were build on said beliefs.

If it wasn't for those damn conservatives they would just totally flip #### on its lid, eschew their religious beliefs that they were told would be protected in their new home, and ham it up with those they believe to be degenerates. Absolutely. No grasping at straws there.

There's a difference between protecting religious beliefs and advocating for those beliefs having a greater influence in Canadian politics or policy, or generally having people and institutions outside your religion adhere to those beliefs.

Maybe you can find a meme that helps you understand the difference.

The take you just presented is more reasonable than attempting to affirm a political group providing a breeding ground for others who are essentially of the same mindset, just on steroids.
Conservatives, at least the ones I know, don't give a #### who or what you want to be. That's the beautiful part of this country. The key being, just don't push it on others.

Which would be fine, if the Conservatives we’re talking about didn’t interpret “pushing it on others” as hosting completely optional drag readings, or teaching factual information about mental and physical health in schools, or protecting, maintaining, or expanding rights of people based on sexuality or gender.

Every child should be taught about gender and sexuality in a public school system. If you want to come in and teach your child that any of that is a sin or wrong, go wild, but your religion does not and should not dictate what facts are or aren’t allowed to be taught in schools.

A cursory check on Calgary Public Libary's website shows as many as 65 Family storytimes a week, with some branches having them five days a week. I'm guessing these are hosted by library staff. There's even a "Firefighter Reads For Kids" thing plus I imagine local professional athletes volunteering from time to time.

Plenty of opportunity for stand-alone Reading With Royalty events, which look to be a monthly thing.

Anyway, this so-called "Save the Children" convoy is likely to fizzle out due to internal bickering on the part of the bonehead organizers.

I suggest they spend more time at a library. Some probably haven't set foot in one for years.
