What does "major miles in the western conference" even mean? Let's not get too dramatic there, lol.

In the season where Gaudreau and Huberdeau both scored 115 points, the Panthers travelled 4,000 more miles than the Flames: https://soundofhockey.com/2021/09/13...y-the-numbers/

* Note, this is based on the original schedule for the season, not the adjusted schedule with the make-up games during the cancelled Olympic break. The Flames only played one road game (in Vancouver) during the make-up games, so it likely reduced their amount of travel.

It means its a different conference. I can't believe so many people wrote off Tkachuk in that trade. The west is its own beast.

Which is the reason you do futures deals. You retain salary now, you get cost controlled high prospect that grows, and by the the time the Hanifin retention comes off you are free to sign your high growth impact prospect.

Or you can do what the Calgary Flames are doing. Fumble in the dark because you can’t make up your mind strategically, or if you do it’s the very obvious wrong decision, and then force yourself to keep a languishing asset.

You know for such a “business wiz” Edwards is, you’d think he would figure out this stuff a bit quicker. Yes yes, more money today Murray I get it, but you’re ignoring the much much much much more money of the future you’re foregoing.

Sutter didn't let the most creative forwards set up in the zone. He also had them endlessly skating up and down the ice, tiring out. It was also plainly obvious that the team wasn't practicing set offensive plays involving huberdeau. How many time did we see huberdeau make great passes into the slot to either a player who wasn't expecting a pass and fumbled it... Or nobody at all.

You can definitely notice a change with Conroy as GM. When BT was at the helm there was always reports from insiders talking about the flames being in on everyone and updates on contracts etc. I didn’t really expect us to be in on much but seems to be very quiet out there these days.

Kadri contract is what it is. Better to look forward. He is a unique player. The first half of that contract is fine (who knows about rest). But after hearing him in recent interviews, I like it more. He wants to make yyc his home. As Diss and others have said, it doesn’t make sense to contemplate trading him. We are losing at least one of Backlund or Lindholm most likely. We need centers.

Wouldn't the fact that Tkachuk returned Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st indicate that Tkachuk was the better player? Not really sure who said Tkachuk wasn't the better player.

Gaudreau didn't exactly have a good season last year either with his -33

With zero cap space, the Flames simply cannot be in on anyone.

I would think Conroy makes inquires, just as the former GM.

Smokey out there..... Flames are engaged in some trade talk activity, believe its Noah and 3 teams involved - situation is complex.

Not Free Agents I’m referring to. They have 4 guys likely to be traded and haven’t herd a single report from an insider outside of our own to suggest we are in conversations with any particular team. My point is that this new management might be a little more tight lipped than Brads was.

Have to think a 3rd team has to be involved because of the cap.

Hopefully it's complex in that the Flames deal an extended Hanifin to one team, that team sends futures to the Flyers, and the Flyers send Konecny to the Flames.

Two years ago anyone saying Gaudreau and Tkachuk were better than Huberdeau would have been laughed at as a Homer.

Well Steinberg other day showed how Huberdeau is actually the 4th most productive forward in the past 5 years. So by the numbers he is in fact better than Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
