Toronto is a lot closer to the Boston area, where Hanifin is from. If you listen to Lucic's interview, he states that he loved Calgary but some of the guys wanted to be in a bigger city with more to do, particularly emphasizing the lack of non-NHL pro sports teams in Calgary. In Toronto they have the Raptors and you can go to an NFL across the border really easily. Entertainment options there would be on par with all the big US cities, but maybe NYC, Las Vegas, and LA.
If Hanifin is looking for "big city" and close to home, Toronto is a much better option than Calgary. For most of the "US only" players, it'd probably be a better option than half the US cities.
Based on the rumours we're getting, it looks like something relatively big is in the works between Calgary and Toronto. If it doesn't involve any of Hanifin, Nylander, and Lindholm, I'm going to be pretty disappointed. We've also a had a SebC gif with the homerun. So that should mean something big coming back to Calgary.
