Hanifin front has 5 serious teams looking into him but I think only two are serious and have assets Calgary wants. Boston will wait to see if he makes it to FA. Buffalo has the asset but probably won’t part with the ask currently but they keep calling. Other teams are interested in the one year term Hanifin but he probably holds better value at the deadline than what’s currently being offered.

Markstrom is extremely motivated to come back and prove his haters wrong it will be here in Calgary. He is still an incredible team player and even if he lost his starting job he would be a good mentor to Wolf/Vladar like he currently is.

Lindholm and Flames continue to talk but as far as I’m hearing the flames are not moving on their offered number Larkin/Horvat money. A eastern team is interested in Lindholm for the year and extension would be sorted out later, I believe it’s Rangers.. Carolina is inserted but I don’t think the player is interested in a extension.
I'm a little confused as to who to follow on the leafs thing. You appear to suggest there have not been serious talks on hanifin and Nylander, while dissentowner suggests sources on both calgary and Torontos sides pointing to serious discussion and a possible trade coming.

Both can be true...

That’s not great. Lindholm without an extension isn’t going to bring back the kind of value a lot of us have hoped for.

Unless I'm missing an update dissent was talking about a general Leafs flames deal... Maybe involving Backlund, Z or Tanev. Not specifically Hanifin or Nylander.

But I could be behind. Tough to keep up with all these insiders

There are rumours of a deal between the Flames and Toronto. But the inclusion of Hanifin is speculation. And it’s hard to believe a player who says he wants out of Calgary to play in the U.S. would okay a trade to Toronto.

are we still pretending all teams pay the same for players? Flames fans of all people should know this
Gaudreau and Tkachuk could have had 10.5M each in Calgary and said Nah
It is a shame that we may be in a terrible cycle of buying UFA players. Any organization can get good value on longterm deals for guys coming off of their ELC, that is not a market dependent thing. Once you start loading up on old guys it costs a bit more depending on the market.

I would bet heavily that the flames don’t trade with the leafs this season.

Toronto is a lot closer to the Boston area, where Hanifin is from. If you listen to Lucic's interview, he states that he loved Calgary but some of the guys wanted to be in a bigger city with more to do, particularly emphasizing the lack of non-NHL pro sports teams in Calgary. In Toronto they have the Raptors and you can go to an NFL across the border really easily. Entertainment options there would be on par with all the big US cities, but maybe NYC, Las Vegas, and LA.

If Hanifin is looking for "big city" and close to home, Toronto is a much better option than Calgary. For most of the "US only" players, it'd probably be a better option than half the US cities.

Based on the rumours we're getting, it looks like something relatively big is in the works between Calgary and Toronto. If it doesn't involve any of Hanifin, Nylander, and Lindholm, I'm going to be pretty disappointed. We've also a had a SebC gif with the homerun. So that should mean something big coming back to Calgary.

I am not claiming a lick of inside info here, but imo the person who would need to say yes would not be likely to do so at all.

Call it spite or whatever.

I said from the start that NY is the team to rob here. They're a big league team who has some pieces to compete and need to go all in. Just reel them in and get everything you can from them. Buffalo is smarter than that but there's a ton of pressure on NY to go all-in.

I think part of the Nylander issue is that he doesn't want to take less than the other big 3. I think that's a manifestation of his overall beef - that he's considered the 4th of the big 4. So i think he will grind Toronto for all their worth. And I don't think they'll get a deal done.

Whether or not he will grind another team in the same way - probably. But maybe not as hard?
