I just checked they're only doing recoveries for forwards.
Here was his card during his career season a year ago.

Then I just don't get the "defensive impact" score. As far as I could tell he was usually out against the top players as well, even over Tanev.

I don't think it relates to QoC as much as it does with suppressing chances against, and impacting the partner's play. I honestly don't have the formula, but it's easy to discount data just because you don't agree with it. It's another perspective, and you can treat it whichever way you see fit.
I added it because it fit my eye test. I didn't think Hanifin impacted the game enough defensively, and the Hanifin - Andersson pairing had a quite high xGA/60 throughout the season. He had a lot more success when paired with Tanev, but in a smaller sample size.
As for comparing him to Troy Terry. There are probably around 30D I'd rather have ahead of Hanifin. With about 20-30 more I think are on the same level as him. Troy Terry I see in the 15-20 range of RW's with the likes of Konecny, and DeBrincat, and Meier.

But I'm not discounting data, mainly because I don't see any data - just conclusions on vague categories. "Defensive impact" is a meaningless category unless there's some sort of correlation with actual events and results which have been calculated.

Taking a while to get to 5000

It'll probably be Tanev & Vladar for Liljegren and a pick or something

I mean Leaf’s aren’t even cap compliant so I don’t see how they be adding without subtracting. They won’t be after term so in Calgary it’s either Tanev or Big Z or a rental Hanifin and that don’t get you the Nylanders of the world that people on here would want.
Hanifin front has 5 serious teams looking into him but I think only two are serious and have assets Calgary wants. Boston will wait to see if he makes it to FA. Buffalo has the asset but probably won’t part with the ask currently but they keep calling. Other teams are interested in the one year term Hanifin but he probably holds better value at the deadline than what’s currently being offered.
Markstrom is extremely motivated to come back and prove his haters wrong it will be here in Calgary. He is still an incredible team player and even if he lost his starting job he would be a good mentor to Wolf/Vladar like he currently is.
Lindholm and Flames continue to talk but as far as I’m hearing the flames are not moving on their offered number Larkin/Horvat money. A eastern team is interested in Lindholm for the year and extension would be sorted out later, I believe it’s Rangers.. Carolina is inserted but I don’t think the player is interested in a extension.

In other words, you are calling Hanifin a #2 D (1-30 would be a #1 D). Deployment last season and quality of competition were consistent with this. A mid-range 1 RW would be worth less than a top pairing D, so it would have to be a trade and sign deal.
