And, if Owen Power or Dahlin remain as an RD since both play both sides (at least according to capfriendly), then either Hanifin as the #3 or Lindholm (if extended as the 1C until Cozens bumps him) would be a great move.

I wish it could have been done at the draft with 13th OA, but you can't fault them for keeping their pick after a faller like Benson fell right into their laps.
Sabres already have two pretty good centers in Cozens and Thompson. Maybe Lindholm could compete with Cozens for the second line center position but he would be nowhere close to taking out Thompson for the first line center position.

Hanifin makes sense for them though.

That would be hilarious. Potentially 6.25 million tied up in cap for 24-25 season without having anyone left to show for it. Brown 3.75 million bonus, and Campbell. Talk about blowing your wad before the cap has even increased.

One of them could play RW. I see Thompson as a better winger anyway.

New Jersey doesn't need Campbell.

Yeah, Lindholm is a much better center than Thompson, but Thompson is a much better offensive player. They’d work well on the same line.

“Maybe could compete with Cozens for the second line” LOL

This is like the 3rd Flames deal in as many days that Eklund has suggested.

I once did some loose math on Eklund's proposals. Friedman might drop a rumor a week, 52 a year. Eklund would average one a day for 365.

He's the most connected man in all of sports. lol

Haha! I only remember him being 'somewhat' accurate once, when he had Olli Jokinen linked to the Flames prior to the trade... But more than a few people connected the dots when Jokinen became available

I thought he was being deployed primarily as a winger anyway….

Geez, Mittlestadt had 59 points this season, I had no idea. I would suggest him as a trade target, but he’s American, so he’ll end up pouting coming here…

The Sabres do not need a center. They have

Thompson - 813 faceoffs taken last year
Cozens - 1,174 faceoffs taken last year
Mittelstadt - 736 faceoffs taken last year
Krebs - 556 faceoffs taken last year

They also have Jost. Lindholm is much better on the dot than any of those guys but they do not really need a top 6 forward. In addition to Thompson, Cozens and Mittelstadt who all had over 59 points they have Skinner, Tuch, Olofsson, Quinn who have the ability to play in the top six. Adding a top six forward takes at least two of those guys out of the top six. Strengthening their defence seems like a much higher need than another top 6 forward.

In all fairness, Cozens put up 68 pts - 31 goals as a 21 y/o playing 2C with Olofssons, Quinn, Peterka mainly. He's trending to be an elite 1C.

4 more points than Lindholm had last year for what will end up being 1.5 million or so less a season after next year....

My buddy said he wouldn't trade Lindholm for Cozens straight up.

I think he's crazy. Cozens is way younger, had more points, is huge, and has a fantastic long contract.

He is indeed crazy. If that trade was a possibility Conroy would be all over it.

The issue is if they want experience or not. Lindholm is a guality two-way guy who could help bring along guys like Cozens. I agree though that they need D.

I use to think (WHL days) Cozens’ upside Monahan. I think now it’s more Johnathan Towes. Buffalo would be NUTS to move him.
