If I understand correctly, you want an assless lindholm to play here next year, on a discounted contract, with another asset in place of his old ass, which you've traded.

Need to abolish this concept of a Calgary tax

Either get on board or enjoy assuredly less money and term elsewhere.

No, I want him to not be here crippling the franchise until 2032 with all those other retirement contracts Treliving threw around for players whose only motivation was to cash out. Trade him for whatever he's worth, I don't care. This team is not winning anything regardless.

Sebrango may have some value. Played for team Canada in the world juniors in 2021. Apparently is a decent mobile defenceman with NHL upside but was buried in the defensive depth that Red Wings have. He’s also from Ottawa.

If what's been posted on Twitter by that unknown insider is true Lindholm isn't humming and hawing over money. He's humming and hawing over committing long-term to a team who he's not sure the direction they're going as he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild. Atleast not right away.

Conroy doesn't have to wait for his decision to make other moves. The only other player I can see it affecting moving is maybe Backlund. He knows Hanifin wants to go back to the States so Lindholm's decision doesn't matter.

I think this saga is going to be what ends up costing Dorion his job under new ownership. Giving up five picks in the first two rounds (including 7 and 12th overall) for DeBrincat and Chychrun, missing the playoffs anyway, and then flipping DeBrincat for a late first and some spare parts a year later. Really uninspiring work.

Tidy off-season for the Wings who are looking to reshape the roster and compete now. A mini-retooling during the rebuild. Depth chart roughly looks like this now:

Perron-Larkin-Debrincat
Fabbri-Compher-Raymond
Kostin-Copp-Berggren
Fischer-Rasmussen-Sprong

Walman-Seider
Gostisbehere-Chiarot
Maata-Holl

Husso
Reimer

Still needs work on defense and in goal, but the forward group is starting to shape up nicely.

Also, gave a division rival a 40 goal scorer. Could really come back to burn their playoff aspirations over the next 4 years.

All to please an aging veteran to sign a retirement contract there…

But hey, maybe the excitement drove up the sale bids.

Canadian GM wants to rush the rebuild and gives up draft capital and the trade ends up biting them in the ass. Sounds familiar

Feels more like a Phaneuf for Stajan and stuff trade...where both teams end up kinda losing.

Chicago is the clear winner.

Awful market conditions, and a player that handcuffed his team into one specific destination.

Probably more comparable to the Iggy trade. A mid-late 1st and some magic beans.

DeBrincat is also 4 years younger than Lindy, so a 4 year contract takes him to 29. For Lindholm, it's all about term. Why would he be willing to sign for lesser term? If I were him, I'd tell Calgary max term, or I'm testing the FA market next year.

Easy to fleece the other GM when it's widely known that the player will only sign an extension with a small number of teams.
This is the disadvantage hitting canadian markets. These players are prepared to hit the market with preferred destinations in mind, that are generally known, so it's hard to extract great value.
