This makes Lindholm's humming and hawing for 8x$9M look like an absolute joke.

Great deal for DeBrincat, definitely a template for other players of similar ability.

Ottawa wasn't intentionally clearing space. They were hoping to re-sign DeBrincat, but he wanted to go to Detroit.

Their production is similar but Lindy is a more responsible 2 way player.

That said, 9M x 8 years would be an insane overpay. 8 years at 7.875M/year is probably fair value for a Lindy extension.

While I largely agree, and as I've stated my main concern is age and declining production due to lower-quality linemates, once you're debating the difference between $8M and $9M the question becomes largely academic.

I wonder what type of return comes to Ottawa. Good move by Detroit imo.

You'd have to legitimately believe he's a Selke calibre player throughout the twilight of his career, which he has only shown once flanked by two HoF players in their prime.

You can't even argue that it's "the Calgary tax" because this is Detroit we're talking about.

Fantastic news, hopefully this trade wakes up some GMs to put in real offers for Lindholm and Hanifin

Nice contract by Yzerman. I wonder if there will be a concentrated effort amongst gms to normalize contracts that aren't full term.

In fairness, DeBrincat is from Detroit and wanted to play close to home.

Good trade for both teams, Ottawa were in a tough spot,

Will be interesting if this will trigger a few others trades around the league.

Kind of proves my point. Lindholm has been here for half a decade already. If that doesn't earn some form of loyalty, trade his ass. If he only wants to stay to be overpaid, that's a pretty pathetic look for the Flames.
