How is that any different than a Canadian city?
Calgary has private schools and posh neighborhoods with golf clubs and places like the Glencoe.

In the US school districts and how good schools are basically decided by how rich the neighbourhood is before you even get into the private school tier of wealth.
If you are rich in the US you have best access to modern medicine, lower taxes, can be basically anywhere on a private jet within 6 hours max, and have to access to a tonnes of leisure options and world class restaurants. Canada is better living for the regular joe but the US is better if you are rich.

Everything Lucic said makes sense. Calgary isn't horrible but I can see players not being thrilled about the travel, the dome, the weather, the city. If you're in Canada Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, are much better cities overall generally speaking. New York, California, Miami, I can understand the appeal of those. I think all the East teams have appeal of far less travel and proximity to a lot of cool places. Just more reason to build a true contender and a state of the art building and culture. That can be your competitive advantage.

It's more of the same thing though isn't it?
The poster I was replying to mentioned schools, golf clubs, shopping, green lawns ...
That certainly exists in Calgary. Most of those people don't take public transit, don't have their kids in public schools, live near their golf course, have a nice shopping area nearby.

People may disagree but I think Ruzicka is a tremendous prospect with some of the best talent on the team.
I think all he needs is a coach to have confidence in him and the narrative (and I believe it is a narrative) on him will disappear.
I see a lot of similarities with Kylington in this regard. Old narratives that just stuck and people parroting what old coaches had said.
Ruzicka made plays and made players (Lindholm) play better. Sutter's 'boards bluelines corners' mantra that saw Lucic deployed on the second line was not a fit to Ruzicka's game. Ruzicka is a smooth skilled player who is closer to a Barkov (not saying he's as good but stylistically) than a Brett Ritchie (no knock on him but he's a strong forecheck guy).
In fact I thought they should have tried:
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Ruzicka (RW)
last season and let that line have the leeway 13 - 28 - 19 had the season prior let them make plays in the oz and not try to get it deep, get it to the point and funnel pucks (boards bluelines corners)
Ruzicka is/was a centre who they wanted to play like a big strong winger. He did well IMO but I think the staff wanted him to get in on forecheck and use size in the corners more. He's used to being in the middle, in space. The staff gave him too short a leash IMO.
He showed he can produce high up in the lineup and I think he will explode with the new coaching staff if he's up the lineup as a fixture.

Very talented kid with a huge dollop of inconsistency.
That was the book on him when he was drafted, that's the book on him now.
Could change, but guessing it doesn't ... seems to be his DNA.

Also one of those big player-doesn't play big types, which drives me crazy.

Ruzicka has all the skill in the world but is running out of time to put it all together with consistency.

If anything, I think Sutter gave Ruzicka too long a leash because he loved his size so much. I think Ruzicka probably should have spent more time in the AHL. There wasn’t a better situation for Ruzicka with Sutter as coach, he just needed to show that he wanted it bad and he didn’t. I don’t think Sutter was even looking for points or hitting or fighting with Ruzicka, it was about battling for the puck, Ruzicka really shouldn’t be losing too many battles in the corners for pucks, but he does. If you put Mangiapane and Ruzicka into a puck battle, Mangiapane wins every battle and that’s the problem.

Ruzicka had very little leash with Sutter and would be benched or demoted after any bad play.
Ruzicka needs to consistently put effort in, when Ruzicka is dialed in he can be a force out there but when he floats he essentially is a ghost of the true player he can be.
Sutter never gave him the confidence he needed to succeed but Rosey didn't necessarily force Sutter to keeping him up the line up by demonstrating a consistent effort over multiple game stretches.
It's on them both.

After Conroys success at not trading futures at the draft, not signing expensive free agents, I hate the trade proposals that have the Flames retaining salary to obtain a ~10M Nylander! I just want to sit back and watch Tre stew in the Leaf quagmire he’s cooked for himself.

That's way too much to pay, and doesn't work, cap-wise
Hanifin + Vladar ($7.15M) for Nylander ($6.96) is a fair trade, and we could retain a $1M or so to make it more enticing for Toronto, if they threw in a 3rd

I’m a big fan of Lindholm, but if we could get Kent Johnson AND Jack Roslovic for him, I would drive him to Columbus myself. I would do it for Johnson straight up. I don’t see CBJ doing it, though.

Agreed. People are more concerned about lifestyle now. I think some of the comments that this concerns family as much as the athletes is probably accurate.

You have to remember that while we always say "the mountains" as a factor that could attract someone to the lifestyle here - throughout their contracts I have heard that players have contractual and insurance stipulations that they can't do a lot of the activities associated with the mountains like skiing and snowmobiling, etc. which could result in accidental injury that voids their coverage and deals. That's why they stick to safe sports like Golf in the offseason.
If all you can do is go hiking, it might not be that exciting to live by the mountains.

Columbus is an interesting destination as I do think the GM there is probably quite motivated to do much better than he has done in order to save his job and Johnny and Lindholm are a proven duo. From their GMs perspective, there's no point hanging on to the kid if he needs to win now, as he won't be around if his team continues to fail.

I think KJ could conceivably outpace Lindy in points as early as this upcoming season.
