I wonder how this plays with the August 15th “deadline” season ticket holders have on their accounts to renew/cancel. Salim just speculating of course, but if this organization just keeps repeating the same mistakes…good grief.

I don't think his tweet means anything, seems like baseless speculation. Its early July, still lots of time before camp. Conroy isn't going to tell him the exact timeline of negotiating a deal, probably because contracts are usually a process with an unclear timeline. Salim must be bored, he should head to the Stampede and have some fun.

I'm sure they have an internal deadline. It seems like Conroy is keeping his cards close which is a good thing. Why make things public?

I don’t know if the attitudes here necessarily reflect those of the season ticket holders

I don’t really see how a full and recent conversation with Conroy on that specific topic is “baseless speculation”
But we’ll see

Perhaps there is consideration of the August 15th deadline, but there wouldn't be anything to be gained by Conroy to communicate some sort of deadline at this point. The only thing we do know is that Lindholm hasn't signed a deal to date. It could be the Flames have an offer on the table of maybe the sides have moved on, but in either case it wouldn't strengthen Conroy's hand to communicate the existence of a deadline.
I'd have to believe there was an understanding when Conroy was hired that moving players can be easier said than done, and the circumstances dictate movement more than team or player desire. It wouldn't be surprising to see an unsigned Lindholm skating for the Flames the day before the trade deadline, and I wouldn't necessarily conclude this is the Flames simply repeating the sins of the past as it could just be a situation where the Flames have a valuable asset that the league is trying to obtain on the cheap.
I share your frustration with the Flames possibly being backed into a position of limited leverage, but the possibility of this scenario was created by the decisions made last summer and the season that wasn't.

There’s 70 days till camp, but looks like Lindholm will be at camp because Conroy told the media there’s no deadline. Do these guys even think?

It's true what he is saying but he is comparing us to US cities and some of them are dumps as well.
Boston and LA is a lot different than Calgary and Edmonton and Edmonton is lucky to have McDavid.

Define "full and recent conversation".
From the tweet, Conroy gave him 2 words "no timeline". It's not like that sat down and had a strategy session together.

Are other pro sports the only things these guys like to do? It's disappointing to hear as a Canadian but I suppose guys from Vancouver/Toronto are closer to American cities growing up too.
Calgary has a huge amount to offer for people who like the outdoors. As far as any Canadian scene goes the nightlife is fine (maybe not after covid, I don't know I'm a family man these days.) Maybe that's why we've been focusing on swedes lately, they like the cold and like to fish in mountainous regions lol

It’s taken a little out of context too or at least misses the flip side Lucic presented in the interview in which he says his family really truly became Calgarians and albertans, tried to get out to the mountains and the nature as much as possible and how he loved the people and the fans. Credited the flames for helping him reconsider hanging them up and while some of that can be attributed to Geoff Ward for sure I do think the time in Calgary helped Lucic in many ways and he came across as super appreciative of his time.
The arena is a known eye sore, I mean Weegar made no bones about it, but he still signed his deal as did Huby and while too I acknowledge they were trying to maximize their negotiating strengths and positions I do think that if they didn’t want to be in Calgary they wouldn’t have come.
At the end of the day lots of players have picked cowtown as their destination and I think once the arena is built that is coinciding with the growth of the next core that we will be fine when it comes to league perception amongst players and desires to play in Calgary.

Players & their families probably travel a lot during the summer too, so they're not even enjoying the beautiful Calgary summers.
They're there during the cold months & then gone when it's nice. Same can be said for all small market, cold locations.

If I were a pro athlete, gearing up to go and watch more sports would be low on my priority list. But that’s me.

Which is fair criticism, but also given the team's history - it's worth bringing into a conversation.
That was a bit of my baby sized rant on Friday though - we as fans are constantly okay with kicking the can down the road.
"There's 70 days till camp" we say, which comes after July 1st where we said teams sort their rosters out and then have an understanding of what players they'd want to acquire via trade, which comes after the team did nothing at the trade deadline because we were waiting for the NHL Entry Draft because that's when values would be their highest (they likely weren't).
Soon enough we'll be at camp and we'll be talking about "values will be highest at the trade deadline".
It's not unreasonable that Flames fans, given the state of the organization, are antsy for some things to actually get done when it comes to the roster. Although, I suppose we should start getting used to the fact that this organization isn't likely to make any significant changes and believe that the roster can win as-is. It really won't surprise me if Lindholm (and others) walk into free agency next summer, at which point the spin will be that the salary cap gained is an asset in and of itself.

Why?
Conroy says there's no deadline. If there's no deadline, then it's entirely reasonable for Salim to put out that the Flames are likely comfortable with Elias going into the season without a contract.
The media coverage of the Flames is largely passive, and pom-pom carrying when it comes to Sportsnet - so I appreciate that the other major outlet will at least discuss these sort of things.
