“He was talking to me about my shot,” Honzek revealed. “In the next camps, I need to work on a quicker release and work on dropping my shoulder, faking the shot.

“He said I have a really good shot, but I can use it more when I cut to the top of the circles and I’m close to the net, and definitely I can shoot more. It’s really good he told me that. I will work on it.”

According to Conroy, Iginla was really impressed with Matt Coronato, something that he shared with the 20-year-old right-winger as camp wrapped. “Jarome, not knowing him and not being around him much, he pulled him aside and we were talking and “he said, ‘The one thing I notice is you never cheated a drill, you did everything at high pace, your work ethic was noticeable every day,’ ” Conroy relayed. “He said, ‘To be in the NHL and be a real top player, you have to continue to do that, not just here but when you go back home.’ ”

Etienne Morin, a second-round selection in the 2023 NHL Draft, doesn’t shy away from battles. The 6-foot, 180-lb. defenceman showed that by twice toppling mountain-of-a-man Adam Klapka. “I know I’m a bit undersized right now,” Morin said. “I’m still young and that’s the thing I want to improve — I want to put on more pounds and be more powerful, more strong. But my point is just to prove that even if I’m still small, I can go against big guys. You can’t back down.”

It's great the Iginla is giving these young guys advice. What an opportunity to learn from a HHOF player and the face of the franchise for years.

After having a chance to analyze the Flames 2023 Draft, I think they hit it out of the park.

Honzek and Morin are going to be studs.

I'm really pumped about Morin...led all draft eligible dmen in scoring in Q, led his team in scoring and wasn't surrounded by a powerhouse team either. I think this guy is going to be a gamebreaker.

Aydar Suniev - if he can improve his skating and I mean really improve it....he might be something seriously fun to watch. what a rocket of a shot.

Awesome to see Iginla in the mix with the young players. Was hoping he’d be involved more than a remote advisor and he already is!

Imagine what a thrill it must be. One day you're a teenager and the next day you're in the same locker room as Jarome Iginla.

I’m a bit salty that both awards went to invites and not actual picks…
The most fit I get but how does a walk on get leadership?

The fact that someone responded to Lanny with THIS might be the funniest thing I have read on this Board in a long time.

Good one, Spurs.

Conroy is interested in signing a couple of the invites. Good to stock the cupboard in anyway and hope you can find the next Hathaway or Duehr. I wonder who stood out to him?

Well, by being a leader im guessing.

Leadership is not bestowed, particularly in locker rooms. It is earned.

Just because a player isnt drafted, doesnt mean they dont have the qualities needed to be a leader.

Look no further than Giordano for an example.

Jarrod Gourley has been a pro for a couple of seasons and is under contract (albeit on an AHL/ECHL deal). They need leaders down the ranks too.

I highly recommend u all buy your young star tickets and book your hotels. Having Conroy and Iginla walking the stands and very interesting prospects will be top notch. Not to mention the city, food, facility and weather.

Gourley was signed by the Wranglers and was one of the oldest players at this camp. He's also already got a year+ split between the AHL and ECHL after 4 years of college hockey. Also, he grew up in Calgary, so he knows his way around the city.

100% local kid too.

The compete in Coronado’s game is self evident, nice to see Jarome give it positive reinforcement. Honzek was not close to the same level, especially on the defensive side of the puck. However, that is also the purpose of these camps. It lets the younger kids know where they are at and where they need to get to in order to earn a roster spot. Just like Conroy talked about, ultimately it comes down to work ethic and execution. You want to see both, but one is non-negotiable.

I'll be making the drive from Kelowna for each of the Flames games if anyone finds a cheaper hotel in YLW and would like to carpool with me. I also wouldn't mind DDing some people around the bench if some of yall would like to do a wine tour.

I went to the last hour. My most pleasant surprise was easily Stromgren with an honourable mention to Kuznetsov. Lots of size and skill and skating. In general, this is a very large group. Fast forward a few years and we’re going to be a big team. Someone told me once that big=good.

Sheesh, so this happened at the Leafs developmental camp. Hirvonen is a former 2nd rounder from 2020 and recently ranked in the top 10 Leafs prospects by THN.

It looked like a clean hit, but you should probably try not to murder guys at a development camp lol.
