I would the leafs require a dman, Tanev might be the focus.
Along with Backlund.

The Leafs are a terrible trade partner for the Flames they have nothing of value that the Flames should be interested in.
Edit:
If it is Hanifin as the main piece and Lindholm stays that is even worse.

You mean if the Flames trade for Nylander you’ll finally #### off and we’ll be free of you? Come on Conroy, get‘er done!!!

Term you say? Brad, have I got a deal for you for a former leaf, fan favourite, Stanley Cup winner…

Of course not, complaining about the trade would provide forum sustenance for five years at least.

I can see the Flames asking for Jarnkrok to be included in any deal with the Leafs.
Nylander + Jarnkrok + Brodie
For
Hanifin + Backlund (50%) + Zadorov
Saves the Leafs about 3MM? Not sure what the Flames will do to be cap complaint however.
Lindholm signs 8.5 x 8
Nylander signs 9.5 x 8

It would actually be beneficial for Toronto if they would move Nylander for defense and/or other parts, it would make their roster composition much more balanced. If Conroy does trade with them I just hope he stands firm and doesn't get hosed in a trade, that would add insult to injury since it's Treliving on the other side. Plus the notorious trading history between the teams, just say no to any weak sauce offer.

Hard to believe, but Treliving is in a worse spot with Nylander than Conroy is with Lindholm. The Leafs need to be in compliance at the start of the year. If they manage to shed cap and keep Nylander, they still need to figure his number and will be up against the cap next year. Toronto is strong and will be in the hunt come playoff time, so there is no way they can move Nylander at the deadline. I think Conroy will have an opportunity, even if they are on the bubble, similar to the Glencross situation. I still don’t see a fit between Toronto and Calgary, but if anyone is in danger of walking a player to UFA, it is Treliving and Nylander

Personally I would love Nylander on the Flames... awesome player and exciting to watch
I assume no deal would be done without a contract extension

if not for the Kadri deal, I'd absolutely be on board with this. Heck, I'd love a Huberdeau-Lindholm-Nylander line a lot ... I think they'd have a ton of success.
But with Kadri on the books, I just can't see how they can sign both Lindholm and Nylander to long-term deals. Surely it'd be one of them, not both of them. Having $35.5m tied long-term to four forwards in their late 20s/early 30s just doesn't seem very healthy, to put it mildly. Now if we could somehow trade Kadri ... but I don't see it.

I hope Kadri has a monster year...he was awesome in Colorado and the Flames best forward for the first half of last season. He obviously had an issue with Sutter and also didn't have much of an offseason last year.
People are now acting like he is Lucic

who doesn't? Heck, I hope he makes me eat a ton of crow.
Of course he's not Lucic, but I do believe the 22-23 Kadri is the real Kadri: a streaky 2nd line forward who puts up 20-25 goals and 50-55 points. That's what he has been all his career really, and that's fine in a nutshell. Problem is he had an absolute outlier of a season and used that to get the Flames to pay him $7m over 7 years, and they even gave up a 1st to make it happen. Still stings. Now he's predictably come back to earth, and given he turns 33 in the fall, I doubt the deal will look any better in the future. Would love to be wrong, obviously.
It's also why I view Huberdeau differently. With Huberdeau, you have sufficient evidence that last season was an outlier, given that he put up a 90+ point pace in four consecutive seasons before coming to Calgary. There's little to suggest Kadri had a down year because, well, his Calgary numbers line up perfectly with everything he's done, bar that one season in Colorado.
