Legit trade vladar for anything you get, unless someone is foolish enough to consider markstrom viable.
An Oilers fan suggesting to waive him associates to our fanbase being beaten down?

I’m 100% on team “give Conroy a chance”. But walking into the season with several prominent players set to go to UFA is not a good situation, and I really don’t see how to see it otherwise.

If you’re out of the playoffs, fine. Hold a fire sale and get what you can.

If you’re leading the conference, maybe some guys are persuaded to stay. Or you even do what Columbus did a few years ago and go all in.

But geez if you’re holding a down a WC spot at the deadline?

IMO you have to make some progress going into the season on these players or contracts. You

Personally I think that you need to manage your organization ruthlessly for the betterment of the team in the long run.

To that end, regardless of where you are in the standings, you need to capitalize on assets if the market is compelling. To the extent the market is not compelling, yes, it probably makes sense depending on the asset to stay still (but not always, such as the case with Vladar, IMO).

Yes the above might mean you forego a Stanley Cup chance potentially in the short-term, but ultimately over the long-run you will have more chances and higher probability chances at winning, and winning over an extended period of time.

Lots of fun discussion on the FAN with Pagnotta
https://www.sportsnet.ca/960/big-sho...avid-pagnotta/

Matthews extension - Matthews wants 3-5 years max; expect to be $13-14M dependant on term

Nylander offered $8.5M, he wants $10M

Vladar (as previously tweeted) Flames want combination of futures (picks prospects)

Lindholm is worth 3 tier package even without an extension - 1st round pick, top prospect and NHL ready young player; with extension, 3-4 top tier assets (A+ level prospect, 1st round pick, young NHL proven asset, plus). Teams interested might include Columbus, Carolina, Boston, Nashville

Hanifin - teams interested might include Seattle, Carolina, Pittsburgh. Teams interested in Karlsson might circle back on Hanifin

Backlund - Boston and Colorado "poked around". Boston more interested in Lindholm. Offers were lackluster

more on Debrincat, Hellebuyck, Scheifele

I think they could do that with a subset set of Backlund, Zadarov, and Tanev but unlikely to do for all of them. But will they lose 1 or 2 of those for nothing? Perhaps.

The Wild card is Kylington as we don't know what his performance is going to be like when he returns.
And Kylington has that added risk of playing well with Tanev, but has he really done much without him?

What if Tanev moves on or declines?

Not a lot of player movement.

Winnipeg in particular still sitting on their two UFAs in a year as well for example.

Not sure you can hammer one team (Calgary) after a draft without a single transaction in the first round.

Sure you can. Just wallow in your own fandom misery and pretend that it’s only happening to your team.

It's definitely true other teams have had some weird offseasons / decisions.

There are many examples but one is what on earth is Minnesota doing potentially letting Dumba walk? And what is Minny doing generally, other than nothing?

The two who wanted out got traded Toffoli and PLD.

We know Hellybuck wants out but thats a hard trade.

With our guys we know Hanifin wont sign the rest we don't know what is happening.

Yeah, no trades happened at the draft. The trades all happened starting the month before the TDL and pretty much wrapping up the week before the draft. At that point the flames had just barely hired conroy and the rumors were that he was re-engaging on signing everyone.

It was too late. I am not criticizing the team for not doinng anything at the draft, i'm criticizing upper management and ownership for continuously waiting far too long to make decisions relevant to the future of the franchise.

IMHO I think we would have seen a trade if Conroy could have been working for 2-3 extra weeks, but instead we did a GM search with stunning candidates like Dave Nonis even though we all knew what the result would be.

I'm not totally convinced that simply having more time would've been the secret sauce here.

Teams were reticent to let *any* of their major draft picks go in such a deep draft; I don't know how a few added weeks changes that.

Super duper legit site lol. I don’t hate the trade in it though if the Flames go the retool route

If he values cash over place then maybe he is changing his tune. Sounds like his preferred teams didn’t want him at his price point. Not that I think it’s real lol

drop the salary retention on Backlund and sounds good (which is why it won't work, because TO needs cap relief).

Also, Hanifin wants to play in the USA, doesn't he?

Also, I'd prefer the Flames go for futures and Toronto doesn't have great futures.

Or what about Nylander and a 1st for Hanifin and Backlund retained at higher % salary, like 75% or something.

To me, Debrincat is one of the guys who is going to get the bag in July 2024 - and it will be with Chicago.

*whoa wait? Is Debrincat an RFA next year too?

**edit - nope, Debrincat has 6 years as a pro, 23/24 will be 7 -> 24 is free agency

Can't retain more than 50%.

Same but I don’t think they’ll go that route. They already had a pure futures deal on the table from the Penguins for Hanifin
