.@AbDanielleSmith didn’t have a problem with a criminal blockade of the Coutts border that cost Canadian economy billions of dollars, but a legal strike is a problem?
Let’s think about that.

I don't like the ucp, but I also urge a quick resolution to the strike. That union holds a tonne of power in this moment, and should be able to work something out.

Or just shoulder check whenever you change lanes or turn. Anyone who relies 100 per cent on their mirrors when driving is setting themselves up for grief.

People are absolutely leaving BC and Ontario to come to Alberta because of the cost of housing in those places. And the high cost of housing in those places is largely a result of land use policies (set by local and provincial governments). If you saw significant upzoning policies (locally) and removed the ALR/Green Zone provisions provincially, housing prices would fall and there would be much less incentive to emigrate.
I don't think that's a left wing/right wing issue though...

I feel like my mirrors are set properly, but I guess you're saying there is no blind spot. Google says that there is a blind spot for every vehicle though...so I have no idea. I just know where people are driving and annoying me!

I'm in the pure shoulder check camp. I feel like "back in my day" there was a definite blind spot and I got used to shoulder checking. I can't not do that now.
My car has the blind spot light (or whatever you call it), and that's why I know that drivers sit there. I'm not talking about in traffic, where there's no choice, but say on Deerfoot with basically open roads and some guy will just drive along in that blind spot for some reason. It's bizarre.

Unless your vehicle has secondary Convex (or you added convex after-market) mirrors, you will always have a blind spot.

Blind spots have gotten better nowadays with cameras, secondary mirrors, sensors, and whatnot, but they definitely still exist and to say that if you have a blind spot it's because you've got your mirrors set up wrong without even know what type of vehicle you drive is well....lol.

My car's C pillar is so huge I almost feel like shoulder checking is performative rather than useful.

I'm saying that there are no blind spots of consequence because setting your mirrors up this way ensures there aren't any in practical terms.
Assuming four lanes:
|1|2|3|4|
If I'm in Lane 3, my lanes of concern are 2 & 4, and I don't particularly give a crap what the guy in Lane 1 is doing. If he begins moving into Lane 2, I'll see him because my mirrors are set to see him in either my side view, rear view, or in my peripheral vision. YMMV vehicle by vehicle, but for every car and SUV I've owned including both my current car and current SUV, it works flawlessly. Just normal peasant mirror glass too, no Euro-spec convex mirrors.

Slava owns either an SUV or a car (based on him asking for advice in the Automotive thread), so unless you're being passed by a Peel P50 while driving an F350 with the wing mirrors off a '61 E-Type Jag, I'm pretty safe in my assumptions here.

Well, my overall issue isn't just that people are unseen there...it's that people insist on driving there. Maybe you don't consider it a blind spot, and that's fine, but why would people drive there?!
Anyway, not sure why this discussion is in the AB politics thread either.

Because it's super easy for political discussions to go off course on one small point.
People from Ontario are moving to Calgary, they say Calgary drivers suck > This is a common criticism, why? > Calgary drivers drive in my blind spot RGMG > Set your mirrors differently to eliminate the blind spot > [argument about blind spots and convex mirrors] > you are here.

Shocker this only comes out now after the election. Notleys and her media buddies entire campaign was run on this kind of garbage bs to spoon feed voters.

Do I need to point out the irony of you linking WS, ceasepool of disinformation who lie in basically every story they report and would never ever offer up a retraction or apologize? Beyond that, Smith was still found to be guilty, but I know, facts aren't really of interest to you.

The Premier is guilty of attempting to influence the Justice Minister.. but let's focus on how the CBC is regretting trusting its source without actually seeing the emails (which it admitted to in the beginning).
She's corrupt.. but just not as corrupt as the CBC led us to believe.

Well, delivery vehicles and such. But that's why they have extra mirrors.
To be pedantic, there is always a blindspot with a single wing mirror and any car of relatively normal length, but you can make it small enough that it's pretty damn hard to hide anything in it. Leaning to the centre of your car while looking in your wing mirror helps make extra sure as well.

Personal vehicles may be able to use the interior rear view mirror but many commercial vehicles can only depend side mirrors.
I drive a cut-away bus... and people are always obliviously cruising in my blind spot. When i ride with another driver, I get white knuckle when the driver starts doing that.
