So, none?
Not to denigrate Johnny Hawkey, but the point is that parlaying a social media platforms into actual gigs is extremely difficult.

Johnny Hawkey has 34k subscribers and averaged over the past 10 videos on his channel 56k views/video. Those 10 videos were over 6 days, this week could be a prolific week for him.
Depending on who you believe youtube pays out 1-3 cents per view. 1 cent is easy math, each video makes him $560. More easy math, assume it takes him 10 hours to produce each video and his other costs are $60/video and he’s making $50/hr. Some of his videos likely take less time but just easy math says he’s making something. He’s not going to give Casey Neistat a run for his money but he’s probably doing not bad for something he clearly likes doing.

As a content creator myself these numbers do track, but my point was to counter the unfounded assertion that "there are some youtubers that started as Flames fans doing Flames-centric content ... and now have accrued in the 100k subscribers ballpark."
I like Johnny Hawkey and I suspect he is making a living of it, but this is not something that is widespread.

That's good, he needed to. I tried to support the new guy by listening on my daily commutes and giving it an honest chance, he's a solid "C" but good enough for a drive. But he really lost me during the first couple rounds with how much he was talking about how the Oilers could win it all.
On a Monday morning when the 2nd round started, he did a segment on how he thinks it's going to be a Leafs/Oilers Final, and how would we handle that here...you pull that on Calgary radio on a depressing Monday morning drive-in to work? He's either completely tone deaf to his new city, or just trying to rile up the listeners. I stopped trying to like him after that one, or listening as much if that's how it's gonna be.

I was not a fan of Boomer, but I get the sense that George’s sports knowledge is even less. He’s a degenerate gambler who bets on sports, doesn’t actually know much about the topic. Some of the statements/questions he makes are ridiculous and give off “watching the game with the friend who isn’t a fan but wants to seek interested” vibe.
I cannot take anymore of the “______ is more _______ than when I _______” texts read by “Texty McTexterson” (a name that sounds like it was made up on the spot by a grade 3 teacher)

Yeah that segment totally sucks. I get that they are trying to be interactive with listeners but I just don't care about this sort of stuff.

I agree that those segments are lame.

Those segments & others just filler, most likely instituted through Rogers as “tested” way to attract listeners.
I like George’s humour and the rapport he has with Matty. Rogers constantly dropped the ball with this station. They have been a day late & a dollar short with podcasting, culling staff that can actually create local content, and not realizing the investment in people matters in a market this size.
To me a loose analogy with radio is craft beer. Own the brewery, but when there is a viable base of something that is working, support it, stabilize the foundation, and diversify.
The radio industry, and advertised media in general, is addicted to lazy, easy money, which explains some of its decline.

Marty Rhodes is off to Italy for a couple of weeks vacation. Julian filling in for a few weeks will, hopefully, be good for the show

To people who continue to listen to the morning show and haven't changed to Barn Burner:
Why?

It can be fairly easy to do both, not everything in life has to be one or the other. Yeah, the morning show kinda sucks, but I’m still a fan of radio, and can spend hours a day in my vehicle. I usually listen to Barn Burner in the afternoon.

Morning show is over hours before Barnburner starts.
I am not sure who watches Barnburner live but I tune into the podcast so it is more of an afternoon show for me.

Barnburner works better as a podcast anyway, because you can skip over the beginning which is usually non-sports talk

So who replaces Lou as color man with Wills?
If I had my druthers i would lean towards Warrener...only because the epic fights the two would get into with Warrener telling it like it is and DW seeing every single thing Flames through sea of red glasses.

I think someone earlier speculated that perhaps they will go with PbP only.
Which I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens.

I'm pretty sure Pat as the host will still be in the same room, but I'm picturing Derek just sitting over an 18 inch TV giving PBP by himself.

I feel like they are just going to broadcast the commentary from the TV feed onto the radio. I don't know how much longer Wills is signed for.
