Well to be fair to my source there really was a belief the deal was getting done, hell even Gaudreau's agent thought so. I definitely learned not to take such a hard stance on my info. In the end it was not accurate and I apologize. When Tre was let go many said they chose Sutter over Tre. I posted about a week before Sutter let go that I would be shocked if he was retained. At that time I was not posting I had a source for that info because of the Gaudreau backlash so I started using the term shocked. When the rumours started to fly about Lindholm being moved after his season ending press conference, before Conroy addresses it I said I would be shocked if Lindholm was moved, since I said that multiple reports have come out the Flames want to keep him and Lindholm is open to staying. Whenever I have said what I am told is contract offers other sources around the league have confirmed those numbers. Leading up to the draft I reported that there were no serious offers to Conroy and other teams were low balling him. Go check the time line, the reports from other media confirming that same thing came out after I posted that on CP. I did not have any Intel on the coaching hire before it came out so I never said I am hearing it is so and so because I didn't. I have no reason to make things up, if anything after the Gaudreau debacle I had more reason just to keep my mouth shut. I believe Sec probably has someone on the inside but sometimes sources get things wrong, it happens. Regardless it makes for interesting conversation.

Alongside “ sometimes sources get things wrong” I’d also say “things change”. Nothing is set in stone, these are rumours/things people are hearing from other people that have ties to the organization.

I find these sorts of rumours a lot more interesting than when Friedman tweets out “Calgary is trading Toffoli” 30 seconds before it gets announced.

If you can’t understand that, then that’s on you.

I have a feeling a Hanifin for Reinhart deal is more likely than a swap for Nylander. Leafs may want to recoup some futures that Dubas sent away for RoR and McCabe.

I could see the Leafs buying out Brodie and swapping Nylander for Pecse+pick

And sometimes the sources get things right...but the deals don't happen for other reasons. The only time a deal is finalized is when it's finalized.

Until then...it's trade-o-ware or deal-o-ware. Read, enjoy, speculate...but don't shoot the messenger. And yes, it's an internet forum and there ARE those who attention-seek. So, grain of salt, healthy skepticism...whatever floats your boat. Or discuss amongst yourselves. All good.

I do wonder how Tre intends to get out of the cap hell created by signing Bertuzzi and Domi. I feel like it's a given that Nylander will be moved after that, question is if Calgary can be a fit in terms of making the numbers work ... we don't really have any cap room right now either. But yeah, I'd absolutely love Nylander.

It's one thing about Treliving that was super annoying as soon as he got cap he would use it right away. He treated cap space like the league would take it away if we didn't use it all
