Goddammit. This is exactly the kind of player I dislike the most. Big frame with potential to be a strong PF-type player. Plays like a weakling. Gross. Have never seen/heard/watched this player before though, so who knows though. Hope he bucks the trend of Flames picking in the mid first round and actually pans out to be an impact player. Will be rooting hard for him to put it all together!

I know know nothing since I haven't followed these kids, but my outlandish afterthought is that I see a lot of Roope Hintz in Honzek.

What about his game makes you think he will be a 3rd liner? Were you able to watch him in person a lot last year?

Well, gotta see how this pans out I guess.

I was hoping they would take Barlow TBH, but Honzek was in a group of players that most projected to be a potential pick for Calgary.

just gotta hope

Honzek will likely get tried at C next season, he was centered by an overager (Ty Thorpe) this season. He's going to need to get stronger to be an effective C, though.

I'm not an experienced hockey scout and I've never seen this kid play at all, but I'm going make assumptions and predictions about his future potential based solely on my overall feelings about the Flames as an organization.

They are poo, so he then must also be poo.

I like it. As with all Flames draft picks I am rooting for him!

Well he is a Slovak. They mainly develop cerebral type players over there.

One thing he does well with this size is protect the puck and use his long reach to tractor beam loose pucks. A good number of his goals are putting away rebounds, which you can never have too much of at the NHL level.

But he's still super raw. Probably will never be a big hitter, but as long as he isn't afraid to go into the corners and battle his frame will be an asset.

Great character- future Captain of Giants
Skill higher end
Size++
IQ fine
Modelling himself after Draisatl
Injury reduced his 2022-23 output

Not much to dislike here. I agree with many that he is likely to surprise to upside.

I couldn’t imagine the meltdown if the Flames were Arizona haha
Posters just want to be proven right and legitimized. They bang the drum for a player and want their team to pick them so they can get the gratitude of saying “see, I was right, I should be a scout, I’m so smart”. When the team doesn’t validate their opinions by drafting “their guy”, they turn on the team.

I know he’s Czech, but I’d love to see a future line of Honzek, Ruzicka and Klapka.

AND just to be that guy - Jankowski is still puttering around the NHL edges and played 322 games. The next forwards taken after him the draft with Brandon Gaunce (153 games, 24 points) and Henrik Samuelssen (3 games, 0 points).

Obviously he didn't pan out as you'd hope, but looking back on that draft - there were a few defenseman who panned out picked after Jankowski, but all the good forwards who came out in that draft were picked before the Flames took Janko at 21.

I didn't realize Moore was American, that makes me feel better about passing on him. I'm already worried enough about Coronato and Wolf, didn't really want to add to that pile. Feeling better about this move today, we'll see what happens.

The problem was look at the guys that went between our original pick and the pick we dropped down to take the best player in the draft. Ouch

Do people project him more as a C or Winger in the NHL?

I had an immediate emotional and negative reaction. That was the result of being uninformed, caring a lot about the team, and being a little scarred. But I’m now feeling more level-headed, and I’m just gonna trust Conroy because there’s ample evidence to support this being a solid pick.

At that size, and if he had a two way game, absolutely a center
