I'm inclined to think that the Flames are going to run it back for another year now.
I don't expect Hanifin, Lindholm, Backlund to be traded this offseason. There's no point now until next year's trade deadline.
They still have until July 2nd or so to make moves. Generally trades happen between the draft and the 2nd day of free agency before things get quiet.
Think the problem is as fans a lot of us wanted more 1st round picks, and unfortunately I don't think that is the organizations intent. They want younger players, not picks.
So I think we maybe see trades for guys that are 21-25 years old and are either closer to being NHLers or are already NHLers. If they move Hanifin and Lindholm it will look more like the Dubois trade than a pure futures trade.
Which is somewhat dissapointing because those likely are lower risk and lower reward type of trades, compared to trading for a 1st which has much higher risk but the shot that maybe you do get a future star. But will mean this team probably remains in the playoff hunt for at least a couple more years.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in here, but Boomer said in reference to Frank saying that the marching orders are to win now and be competitive:

Not to say that Frank is wrong or that he's got bad intel, but my understanding is that he hasn't been given those marching orders. That this is very much a turning over the roster. That we can handle it in a number of ways, try to get right back to where we are - or, get some futures. I'm led to believe that there isn't a "must make the playoffs" mandate.

I think most of the fanbase would be fine with young quality players coming back.
If you can get a lundel/jarvis caliber of player (unlikely) I think people would be ecstatic. Krebs caliber would be good too.
Im are worried that we will re-signindy for 9+ and trade hanifin for duclair, or keep hanifin into the season.
As many people are saying above. These players want a trade. Fine and dandy. But the team should do what’s best for them. If they are all dead set on screwing the Flames there’s nothing that says the Flames have to do what’s best for them.
If it’s true that they are getting crap offers for them right now I’d wait it out and start the season with them. If things go well with the new coach and a tweaked lineup maybe they change their minds. Backlund wants to win a cup. Maybe he sees the opportunity here as an example. If it goes like crap again then you have 6 months to get the best deal you can for whomever still wants out. Other teams will get more desperate closer to the trade deadline. Start a bidding war. Teams are going to want guys like Backlund, Lindholm and Hanifin for a playoff run. By that time you can also evaluate your younger players on the big club and figure out whether they fit or not and what the Flames actually need.
Worst case is they get injured, you make the playoffs and they still want out or you’re getting the same crap bids at the deadline. But I guess if you want to maximize their value you have to gamble a bit. Unless someone comes to the table in the offseason with something you can’t refuse. I think even though the situation doesn’t look optimal, conroy can still be in the driver’s seat. Time is on his side right now.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. Hopefully Conroy can turn a crap sandwich into a chocolate cake.

Duclair played well with Huberdeau and the Flames need players that can put the puck in the net. Add in Coronato and they might replace Toffoli’s goals from last year. I’m guessing Lucic, Ritchie and Lewis are all not returning and Duehr slots in to fill one of their spots. There’s plenty of opportunities for younger more skilled forwards.
I personally want to say thank you to @Sec214 for all the insider I found he shares with us. It really helps this whole process become more interesting and engaging for me.

Well that certainly reflects the return on the Toffoli deal. I would guess any other deal would be structured the same way, they want roster players back and not just pure futures.

Or were those picks simply not available? Based on what we saw across the board yesterday, doesn't look like anyone was parting with their 1st round picks......unfortunately.
