Which is exactly why they'll trade all futures for the next couple years.
Once Malkin/Crosby/Letang are done they'll be a lottery team.

I'd argue they should have started the rebuild last trade deadline. But to each their own. Suppose they could giv'r one more kick at the can but I wouldn't if it was me.

Vladar for their first round pick?
Do it Conny!
Then Vladar lead them to SC and CP has a major meltdown.

They should have moved Malkin a year or two ago.

I understand that things are quiet with the Flames on the Lindholm front because they want to resign him if possible.
But if Hanifin has said that he is not interested in resigning why would there not at least be some Flames chatter regarding his possible movement?

Low ball garbage offers and no one wants to take on salary right now.
Still hoping that Buffalo trades for him on the draft floor.

There could be some but nothing progressing quite close enough to a deal yet. Often we hear a rumor on something only a couple minutes before it's official, or no rumor at all.
I still think we see Hanifin traded today or tomorrow.

Why would those players want that? You have a generational player and you go for it until the end.

What does what the players want have anything to do with anything?
In my opinion the Pens should have started a rebuild around when they instead chose to extend Malkin. At some point the mentality will shift there from win now, I just think it should be sooner than later and that means they won't move their 1st today.
But doesn't really matter what I think, just chatting on a messageboard until we have actual rumors or trades to talk about.

You start a rebuild, maybe he changes his mind?

Pittsburgh will likely bottom out in the next few years and then win the lottery and get the next Crosby/Lemieux. The Pittsburgh way. Flames bottom out for the first time, draft the next Yakapov.

Sure, if he asks for a rebuild or trade, you start tanking the next day

No chance they start a rebuild and force him out. He saved that team from bankruptcy and brought them 3 cups. They’re not going to disrespect him like that

Pens just acquired R.Smith for a 3rd. The rebuild will wait another year at least.

The rebuild will come for that team and it will be a scorched earth rebuild. But as long as Crosby/Malkin/Letang are willing to go for it… you might as well go all in with that core. Anyone they pick at 14 is unlikely to help this core win another cup. Trading that for Lindholm or Hanifin could absolutely help them win a cup. They are an easy trade partner as well since they have an obvious cap dump in Granlund that could be sent back.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Just saw on TSN that Babcock will be given a 2 year, $8M deal on Saturday from Columbus.
Their time is now. Come on Jarmo, make a splash. Lindholm, Hanifin, you know you want to.
