The irony here is he mocks "wait and see" but is on a message board dissecting every move and potential move the Flames make

Buffalo is also loaded with some top end young forwards and forward prospects. Would make a good trading partner.

Funny you say that, not that I think Buffalo should give up 13 for Tanev but they seem like a perfect fit for him.

Not sure there is a better way for them to develop Owen Power than to put Tanev right next to him and give Power the freedom to develop his skills and take chances knowing he has Tanev there to clean up any mistakes he might make at this early stage in his career.

Absolutely - yeah I didn't mean my post as a slight against Tanev at all. If they aren't willing to pay the price for Hanifin (which I can only assume at this point would be 13OA or something equivalent), Tanev would be a great second option that wouldn't take as much to acquire.

I don't think you get a 1st for Tanev right now.

But a healthy Tanev might net you a 1st at the 2024 deadline, it wouldn't be crazy at that point.

Of course there is risk to the Flames in that scenario though, because Tanev is rarely 100% by that point of the season.

I’d love to move Hanifin for 13th overall 1 for 1 and then hold tanev for the deadline. If tanev doesn’t bring back as much as you’d hoped he would then oh well, move on. But moving 1 or the other today would be great

Tanev would be a great acquisition for anyone trying to get more out of one of their own Dmen. That's his MO, and not just with young guys - remember him with Gio?

The risk for waiting for a TDL trade (where I think his value goes up) is injury. OTOH, other teams see that same risk in getting him now. But maybe the injury thing os overblown. He missed time last year, but the three seasons before he played every game. And 4 of the games missed last year were from a freak shot to the head.

Interested to see what the Pittsburgh/Calgary talks are about. Pittsburgh is shopping the 14th pick? Or could be other players.

If they are shopping the 14th than it has to be Hanifin.

They already have Crosby and Malkin as their top 2 centres thus a Lindholm trade makes little sense.

Wonder what the + would be attached to the 14th overall though.

Sorry I didn't put in the tweet because I assumed it was in this thread already. But yes the athletic mentioned that Pittsburgh has engaged with a number of teams including Calgary.

Pittsburgh also needs a goalie. Maybe talk on Vladar.

I think the Pens would be crazy to be trading picks, they're not far from needing their own rebuild with the age of their team.

Pittsburgh needs to tear it down, but I think they won't as long as Crosby is playing. Wouldn't be shocked if they gave up that pick for immediate help.
