I should really put together a compilation of "wait and see posts over the years. Never gets old.

How about this: Tanev for Toronto 1st from Boston (28th), then Flames trade this year second (48) for some 22-27 years Old D to replace Tanev. Basically a move up in the draft by 20 spots + good Dman for Tanev. Update: thinking this is more of a deadline trade, I bet too much uncertainty in his health.

I'm resigned that no first round picks are going anywhere for players, at least until the draft, where maybe some teams switch spots. Everyone wants to pick.

I didn't assume anything about Toffoli. There are more moves to be made where the Flames will all but certainly be giving up the best player in the deal. Hanifin, for one. If I'm assuming anything, it's that the bargain bin coaching staff isn't going to work miracles.

But yes, Toffoli for this Shaggy guy is a pretty obvious downgrade in talent, barring a significant fluke based on nothing but hopes, rainbows, and the power of friendship - the kind Jay Feaster loved to peddle with a "wait and see" tagged on.

I'll wait and see the roster but I'm pretty confident the Flames will score more goals this season

If we're talking Toronto, how about just Hanifin for Nylander and we keep Tanev?

I'd love it from the Flames perspective but I think Tanev would get a couple seconds at the trade deadline and maybe a 1st if a contender got desperate. Feels like a second is stretch for him at this draft.

Well in this case I think it's a fair point.

Makes sense to not be making predictions about how many goals the team will score next year, or if they will be better or worse until we actually see the roster.

no, he totally predicted a Vegas/Florida final last summer

why wait and see when you know what is going to happen

The Flames on paper did far worse than people expected this season

I mean bring back a "worse" team with Kylington, a better Huberdeau, and decent goaltending...probably breaks 93 points IMO

I don't even know how to search that far back but if you don't think you made negative posts like this after the Canadian div season you have medium term memory loss

And far better the season before than predicted as well. Most media had the flames missing the playoffs the year they won the division. It’s a crapshoot in the NHL these days.

Tanev will not bring a first round pick in this year's draft.

And you edit is correct, Tanev, if healthy, will be a deadline deal, and if playing up to par, way well be worth a late first in the 2024 draft.

I bet there are a ton of teams starting at Buffalo who have particular guys they want, and if those guys are taken they’ll make a deal. Pretty obvious statement but I think that’s why there hasn’t been any deals yet. The moves back are a guarantee once 20 or so comes up.

No team is trading a 1st round pick for Tanev at any point, trade deadline or otherwise.

So other then wait and see option, what other option does a fan have other then cheering for a different team? Yes I guess don’t spend money( I don’t as I live nowhere near Calgary) so I have a choice of be negative about it or just wait and see what happens knowing I have no control over it.

Florida traded a first Ben Chiarot and it was damn near a lottery pick

Yeah, I feel like at best a contending team will drop a 2nd for a healthy Tavev at the deadline.
