But didn't even make the team in the playoffs... I guess the Flames really like him. I mean I don't think this hurts them at all with the direction they seem to be going, at least they didn't sign him long term. But still seems rich for a guy that the Devils didn't even want to qualify.

If he has a good season and the fit is good he will extend, team and player are looking for the same thing here. He needs opportunity, Flames can provide it.

They obviously spoke to him and his agent before the trade

I have a Bourque Jersey, so that's awesome.

But nobody is as tough as Rene, that neck scare was fierce.

This is what we should have done rather than Brouwer or Neal. Big difference in strategy.

You're going to be disappointed. Bourque was a wrecking ball when he joined the Flames. This is not Sharangovich's style.

Imagine a 24 year old being scratched

Career over obviously

Naw.

The Flames need more guys who can finish. Sharangovich has an elite shot and is a big body with long reach who can get in the front of the net.

Toffoli was a great goal scorer too, but he worked almost as a lone wolf. Toffoli would generate lots of offence off the rush, but wasn't all too effective, for example, finishing on the PP. Sharangovich is the kind of player who will knock in the rebound.

Yes, I know moving the Flames highest goal scorer out for a "goal scorer" seems counterproductive, but I see what they are doing. They want a more cohesive squad that they can build set plays around. Toffoli is also getting older and giving a 31 year old Toffoli a big contract after a career year is probably a bad idea. Toffoli has also been very up and down with his production through his career. He's had just as many sub 20 goal seasons as 30+ goal seasons.

Some NJD Devils fans are saying that Sharangovich was effective on the PK, but I do not see him as a Backlund replacement elite 2 way forward.

I remember Bourque well. He was one of the streakiest scorers the Flames have ever had. That's Yegor to a tee.

Brouwer and Neal were brought in as UFAs in the midst of bidding wars. Big difference. The Flames should have scouted both those guys better and realized they were slow and selfish.

Toffoli is so overrated by some on CP. His performance last year was at the expense of Hubderdeau, Kadri, Lindholm. Why some dont understand that is mind boggling.

Phil Kessel has cup rings, had 14 goals this year, and didn't make his team in the POs. Pretty sure generally I'd have him on my team over, say, Keegan Kolesar. But roles still matter in the POs and with Barbashev coming in and Amadio having a great POs, Kessel sat.

Trade a good asset for a guy you clearly don’t believe in as the main piece. Genius.

Bourque was maybe the laziest player I've ever seen. I sure hope that's not Sharangovich.

Yep, him and Darryl were best buds...he got far more opportunity than he would have on most teams. Good player but "Flames lost their leading scorer" is a little misleading.

I bet TT doesn't score more than the Flames leading scorer this year

Yup, and absent an absolute regression, the contract is likely easy to move for an asset during the term of the deal. If he turns out to outperform the deal, the worst case scenario would be a signing dilemma involving a valuable asset. This is a good deal.

Why only 2 years? Flames could easily extend or trade him down the road to add to the trade tree.
