Terrible return for the leading scorer. Yegor could be okay but let's see how this plays out. Hope we don't use the cap space on another mistake free agent signing

I'd add Eric Francis to that line of thinking.

I mean, newhook is 22. Even if he does ultimately bust, a lot of GMs will see more value there because he's young enough that he could turn it around on their team.

I don't blame him and he has a chance to replicate his career year in jersey.
Just don't bash the team on your way out. Teams let players walk all the time.
Making a 31 year old winger coming off a career year the priority would have been troubling.
The push from young guys must be making them uncomfortable as well this is his last pay day being pushed down the lineup will hurt.
Better to get rid of a disgruntled player before it seeps into the room.

If he gets 35 goals at 25 why are we trading him hahahaha

He's a big guy that can skate, has a great shot, can play any forward position and just scored 24 goals 2 seasons ago.
Maybe there's some potential there, and we should see how he actually looks when he's in Calgary before calling this a bad trade?
|
Like I said, heavy Nigel Dawes/Blake Comeau vibes with this guy. He’s young but not that young. And he had that one season a couple of years ago but the rest of his history is unremarkable.
Plug him into the top 6 on a weak team and he puts up 30-40 points I’m sure, but ultimately we’ve seen plenty of these types of players come in for a year or two, hang around for a little while when they’re done in some place like Arizona or Columbus, and then disappear to the KHL.
Maybe I’m wrong and he totally blows everyone away, but I’m gonna take the under on that one. He’s a guy who fills your roster and that’s about it. Not someone you have to pretend you’re thrilled to get back for your leading scorer.

I never really focused on this guy when watching the Devils play. This is what I think based on stuff I can find on the internet.
330 faceoffs in 200 games. 36%.
I think he's a winger.
Looking at contracts signed over the last year and a half for guys who put up 30+ points....
I think his new cap hit starts with a 3.
You can probably trade a 4th round pick for a guy that scores 30 points at $3+ million. So....
I think that the Flames org believes this guy could rebound in a top six role.

I'm not particularly fond of Valjis takes, but I just think the constant bringing it up for a gang slog makes it feel like something else. And yeah I think he admitted to being an oil lover when he started, so big strike against and might explain his level of analysis. Just feel like the general vibe around the criticism is not a good look when it comes up here over and over.
And imo he has quite a long way to go before being in the realm of Francis lol. Years.

What are you implying? What is the something else?
Maybe the pattern of criticism is due to the fact that he’s not very good.

The guy pretty much needs to produce at a top 6 rate for the trade to make sense. Otherwise it is basically Yamamoto and a 3rd for Toffoli.

Who knows what other offers could have been had. Not worth arguing that.
He made a choice to have Sharangovich + 3rd rounder NOW vs waiting until the deadline and getting whatever Toffoli is worth then (good year? bad year? injured?). I'm guessing the max you get would be a low 1st or 2nd as a rental at best?
No idea what Sharangovich is like...seems to have upside though based on what others have said.
So you chose between...
Sharangovich (buying low) + 3rd
or
Disgruntled Toffoli for most of the year and a 2nd rounder
It's kind of a coin flip for me.

This is such a delusional take imo. People rip Francis just as often.
If the guys work is dog ####, people shouldn't be afraid to call it out because of the color of his skin or the name of his deity.

Toffoli sounds sad they fired Sutter because he was a Sutter guy.
Then double hurt feeling when his extension wasn't prioritized.
Sounds like he didn't really read the situation well.

Oh boy, twisting peoples opinions to fit a certain “Something Else”? You going to make a statement about this “Something Else”.
