This deal fits exactly the type of thing they said they would do.
You haven't been listening to what they have been saying. That's on you.

Yeah, I didn’t look back at ages, I just thought “two seasons”.
But still, older, pending UFA who has requested a trade coming off what will likely be his career high before he slips back to his normal 45-55 points and who costs $5M or so.

Sharangovich isn't gonna be a core piece but he's a good player. He probably has the best shot of anyone in the entire organization. Really curious to see what he can do.

Toffoli should have gone to the Islanders for that price. You still scared to post a head shot, huh?
Well. I guess hope for the best.

Par for the course for Valji…who speaks first and thinks later at the best of times these past couple years.
Maybe he’s bitter because all those fluff peices he’s done on Conroy since getting the job didn’t translate into a scoop on this trade?
Toffoli had to go at some point, unless he was going to sign a very cheap contract. And he had to go soon since his request was allows to go public. The return is what it is, but his logic of cutting down the deal makes no sense.
My debate is whether Conroy handling all of this exodus publicly meant he got less by dealing, today or next week or next month.

Yeah I’ll definitely take this trade over signing Toff long term

The 5v5 stats surprised me for sure.
He'll likely get PP time and perhaps a chance to wheel around with Huberdeau.

Around the Devils report on Sharangovich (PBS budget quality)
"He will become a fan favorite. We adored him. Very good on the PK very good shot just hasnt put it all together and was the odd man out,
He also named his pet bird Ham"
"He’s adorable and precious you better not hurt him
But he’s a streaky goal scorer that needs playmakers to produce. He’ll pot at least 20 with the right linemates. Decent on the PK as well."
"He is a gem of a person, has a hell of a shot but doesn't use it as often as he should.
Also on the PK he always seems to have his stick on the ice in the right spot"
"He was one of the few bright spots on an awful team when Hughes came into the league. His growth didn't keep up with Hughes' to warrant them staying on the same line and so he bounced around in the bottom 6 last year struggling to get into a rhythm. Eventually he got put into the revolving door of young healthy scratch roulette Ruff played and was in and out of the lineup.
He could be a 30 goal scorer or just a bottom 6 defensive forward. Jury's out. I will say I think he's a lot more of a sure thing NHL caliber bottom 9 player than Zetterlund."

I strongly dislike this trade. This trade signals to me the Flames May actually still try to compete for a playoff spot this year rather than rebuilding.

I love the valuation of players around here.
Toffoli has a career average 45-50 pts, but since he got 71 points last season he’s a 71 point player.
Lindholm had 64 points last season - right around his career average - but since he got 82 points two seasons ago, he’s an 82 point player.

Hopefully he is right. The guy was a healthy scratch for 8 playoff games so the Devils felt like they had 12 forwards better than him in the playoffs.

He has 1 full year left and it’s not uncommon to see a 30+ goal rental go for a late 1st. Some time it’s better as a rental as you don’t have to worry about the cap next year.
Also, the Flames got Toffoli for a playoff push, the extra year was a bonus
Sharangovich is a falling young player. Is he going to be a Sam Bennett or a Jankowski after the trade. We’ll see.
But it’s disappointing return for your leading scorer
A C for Conroy’s first trade
At least it’s not a F lol

I don't think hes wrong.
As another poster pointed out, similar Stat line to Lindholm before he came to CGY.
I think he will gel with almost anyone slated in our top 6 fws . And this is just the first acquisition of the summer.
Let the man paint his picture.

I think the public nature of the exodus coupled with a new GM creates the dynamic of other GMs trying to take advantage of the situation. The Flames can try to hold out for a higher price, but there's also risk that you overplay that hand.
And yeah as for Valji - he's just such a lazy reporter. Apply some actual critical thought instead of tweeting out basic stats that tell only a fraction of the story. Lay-Zee.

Pretty clear the Flames can forget about acquiring much first round picks then except for maybe Lindholm.

Sorry but this one stinks. Im not even a huge Toffoli fan, but we traded essentially a 1st and 2nd rpubd pick for him a little over a year ago
