Haven't seen the player enough to properly judge the trade.
Was maybe expecting more though.
What's interesting here is that he is a centre and playing him in a bottom line role would completely be a waste of his talent.
This deal pretty much indicates that subsequent moves are coming soon.

It is not 4 million in cap space unless the new guy is free.
Flames will try to remain competitive next year, fighting for a wildcard spot while getting younger. That is the way. With our team, if we do that our worst case scenario is finishing 17th or 18th overall.

NJ wouldn't cough up Holtz for Meier so they weren't going to for Toffoli.

Awful first trade for Conroy. Disappointing.

Are the flames rebuilding? Then why do they want a 25 year old middle of the roster guy that needs a new contract?
Are the flames contending for a cup? Then why did they trade their leading scorer?
Absolute nonsense of a trade.

The trade return is okay. It's not amazing, it's not terrible, it's alright.
Sharangovich + 2nd would have been good but this is okay.

If this trade happened last summer we would be adding the pick. It might not work out but if we aren’t rebuilding we need to do these types of deals. Huge upside vs what? Signing Toffoli til he’s 40 at $6.5 mil?

This thread sounds like the "Jump to Conclusions" mat from "Office Space." Let's trash Conroy, the Flames, everybody involved, the player, the draft pick, etc., because we all magically know what actually happens behind closed doors.
Do I like it? I don't know. I would much rather wait and see than putting everyone up against the wall and shooting them.

Fair point. But I mean if they don't have room for him they should give us a call

Don't mind this. Assuming Sharangovich was scratched in favour of Meier after the deadline. Could be more to it but it looks to me like he lost his spot in the line up and the Devils didn't want to mess with chemistry on the other lines. Don't see it as a huge deal. I liked him in the few games I saw.
Hopefully this gets the ball rolling on moving others out.

Don’t know what to think. Don’t love it or hate it. We all felt we fleeced Florida at last years trade and look how that turned out.

The Conclusion: Still, like Schmid, this pick was a massive success. Again, fifth round picks often do not make the NHL at all. Even with his disappointing 2022-23 campaign, Sharangovich is eighth in the entire 2018 NHL Draft class in scoring with 106 points in 205 games. Ninth place is defenseman Evan Bouchard who is at 89 points. The closest non-first round pick in points is defenseman Sean Durzi, who has 65 points in 136 games. In terms of goals only, only three 2018 draftees have more than Sharangovich’s 53 goals: Brady Tkachuk (125), Andrei Svechnikov (112), and Joel Farabee (60). He edged out Jesperi Kotkaniemi (52). The point is that Sharangovich has been legitimately one of the best forwards out of all of the 2018 draftees when it comes to production. It may soon be over in New Jersey but I cannot regret how it went for Sharangovich

He was a minus player (-3) on the Devils. The Devils. Where a bunch of guys were +40. Had the worst +/- for any Devil playing 20 or more games.
For a 34 goal scorer. Crazy.

Not the worst deal IMO. I am surprised that so many people seem to never have heard of Sharangovich. I realize he isn't a household name or anything, but he is a guy that has scored 20+ goals in a season and in 2 of his 3 seasons he was paced for between 40-50 points. I get not liking the kind of trade, but he's not a bad player.
I was expecting a higher pick back though, like a 2nd rounder. Not worth crying about though.
