If that's the nightmare, then what's the dream? Drafting more busts to keep the cap pressure down? What a strange take.

If all came up and popped at the same time that’s not a cap nightmare, that’s an opportunity for sustained asset management or as I like to call it as a Flames fan ‘the dream’.

Dominos will fall today.
I figure by noon eastern time the flames will make thier first move.
Too much movement to not have anything happen today.

Not as easy as it seems. Fact is there’s no timetable. The Flames likely make moves during the 1st round of the draft. Happy to be wrong though. I think it would be wise to wait and see if we could get a faller, and then acquire the additional 1st for either another faller or a player we really like and covet.

Amazing how many of you turn on a player if he doesn't slavishly bow at the alter of the flames.
It's a business and Backland gave many years of excellent service, and was a pillar in your community. Even if he wasn't happy he's given his all.
Maybe appreciate what a guys done for your team instead of kicking him when he has to look out for himself.
The Flames sure as heck are not going to treat him as anything other than an asset, so why should he take a low contract for any reason, or even give the fake lip service that some of you seem to need to hear.

Someone posted that Lindholm FMV is 8 years @ 6.5 AAV.
We are talking open cheque book here for him? I felt like 8.5 was really pushing it up but if he gets us in the 9s that's a disaster.
Even Johnny, Mathew and Huberdeau didn't take us to the cleaners like that they had offers of 1 million over market price.

He's basically saying that he's not re-signing so what happens between now and the expiry of the contract is out of his hands and he's 100% correct. I'm glad he's not saying the "I love it here" nonsense and being honest about where things are.

It’s 100% out of his hands if he (a) doesn’t get any offer from the Flames and (b) the Flames trade him to a team not on his 10 team trade list.
It’s at least partly in his hands otherwise.

That's what happens when it's a partial quote and they post the rest later.
I have one more year but it's not my choice. The context behind his quote was put in a different tweet.
His sportsnet interview probably said the most when he was talking in past tense and a bit nostalgia.
Sounded like a guy ready to play out the season and leave.

$6.5 million is complete nonsense. He shouldn’t be taking a penny less than horvat.

I hope the whole 'waiting for Lindholm' doesn't hold back other timely moves being made over the next few days.

Lindholm seems to be on the fence more than any of the other players, i see him as the last player to go if ever he is traded.
Hanifin and Toffoli will likely be the first to go as they are not interested in returning.

He should be the 1st to go. And it should be before the 1st pick is made at the draft.

That Horvat contract is terrible Lou is terrible as well.
Lindholm is fine in 7.5 to 8.5 but anything more is a ridiculous and big overpayment for someone who doesn't seem to want to be here unless we pay way over market for him.

Horvat is grossly overpaid though. $6.5M for Lindholm is a steal and no way he signs that deal anywhere other than maybe Florida/Tampa/Vegas where there is no tax and they are good teams.
Flames need to cash in on this asset. Nothing was worse as a fan for me than watching the 2010-2013 Flames go for it every year and in 3 of those years finish 9th or 10th in the West. They only bottomed out in the last year because Iggy was ready to move on.
I do not want a team lead by 30+ Lindholm, Backlund, Huberdeau, Kadri, Markstrom, Weegar chasing the second wildcard.
Flames need to move the 4 pending UFA’s, get significantly younger but build a top asset base through acquiring picks or prospects. Maybe next year or the next 2-3 years are painful but if they don’t go this route I can see the next 7-8 years being really painful

It seems like that right now.
Feels like Johnny 2.0 all over again except he won't be leaving but his deal is holding up other business.
They are saying everything is bases on what Lindholm decides.
What if they have hockey trades and future trades lined up for Hanifin and the draft comes and goes and Lindholm says he won't stay.
Have to do what's best for the franchise.

I still feel any deals involving a 23 1st won’t be announced until that pick at the draft for the excitement value per Bettman.

He tries to do that but they always leak well in advance of the draft. The only time they get to announce something is if it literally happens on the draft floor.

If Lindholm is a $8.5 player, any contender should be pouncing on the ability to even rent him at $4.85. And if the market is slow on that, may be everyone’s idea of his worth is not what GMs think.
