yep, just like all the others except maybe Hanifin, nobody "wants out"
just the usual Oiler fanboy media making #### up...they broke em!
they want more than the Flames are offering, Flames are calling their bluffs

I can see this 100%. If michkov is gone before our pick we’ll take the immediate help. Benson, Reinbacher, Dvorsky won’t help them for 2/3 years and by then the ovi era is over.

Has it ever been confirmed that Backlund actually wants out?
There are so many complications to signing him to an extension: age, tenure (almost 1000 games as a Flame, a bit of a shame to move before that), role going forward, other players over 30 already signed for the long term, Stanley Cup prospects for the Flames in the next few years, opportunity to see what's out there for the first time...

It’s not like Conroy is calling up the marketing department “hey, I might be trading Backlund so don’t film any content with him at the NHL awards”.

Yes, I just realized that and thanked the people who clued me in. Thank you for the wonderful, snotty tone.

I think that is what he will end up with but either he is trying to price himself out of that market or that is where his agent is starting as a high point in his negotiation.

yep, if you want 9 ish start at 10 ish
its not that complicated...and he will get 9 ish, either in TO or elsewhere
10M is no longer the contract of the top end guys

I doubt 8th OA would be moved, Michkov or not. As we all know this draft is very heavy, they will likely pick a forward to take the reins of Ovi or Reinbacher/ASP to replace Carlson in the future.
I think they'd rather move the standard late 1st / prospect / cap to make it work though. They want to get rid of Mantha, perhaps they would do a Backlund + Hanifin + 2nd for 8th OA and Mantha. They need a center to replace Kuznetsov and Backstrom isn't prime Backstrom.
They also have 3 2nds in 2025.

Yeah and like Friedman said, why would he take a discount when no one else in Toronto has. Can't really argue with that, very tricky situation for Tree.
