But with 8 years remaining on his deal that would likely deter a lot of contenders with very limited cap space.

Well come on, who asks for 5 examples? I can understand asking for one or two.
So you think Ekholm 2 years ago would have been worth less value if he had 5 years left on his contract?
Hamonic was 2 years younger than Weegar. I believe that in our entire organization Weegar is probably the most valuable asset we currently have in respect to trade value.

I seriously doubt it. Hanifin is a borderline top-line defenseman, and the going rate for these players will easily be in the range of +$8.0 m.

You could get a first for Weegar in about 10 seconds from multiple teams, the pluses would decide where he went
|
Agreed. Weegar is the kind of player teams are hoping their 1sts can turn into (outside of the top 5-7 in this draft, which is a bit special).

At what point are you going to move on? What is the point of constantly complaining about what they should have done.
They did what they did. They can’t change it. At what point are you going to stop complaining about it and look forward instead

When we all provide 5 examples of defencemen exactly the same age and on exactly the same contract as weegar being traded for 3 pieces, the value of which is to be assessed by them. Come on guys, it's easier just to accept that weegar is a cap dump.

There are posters here who are never happy unless they are complaining.

That was just off the top of my head. The value is clearly there, and him being signed long term at that price only increases his value.

The bolded took me a full minute to process - I thought I missed some big news...
Then I remembered there is another Lindholm who plays D

It was a dumb question to begin with. Find me five trades precisely like the player A trade for player B. GO!!
Of course this is the response you were going to provide after someone actually gave a good answer to your question.

Maybe it proves it to you, but I don’t think it proves it to anyone else, and if you need your own points proven to yourself I’d say that should tell you how strong it was in the first place.

They say that those who constantly revisit the past are often depressed, and those that are constantly anticipating the future are often anxious.
We have a lot of both these days around here. To all of you I say just live in the present and take things as they come. You'll be a lot happier that way.
This team will look different next year. How different? I dunno, but I'll just wait to see it all unfold before I put much energy into it.

I see where you are going but over the last 30 years Flames fans living in the present are left seeing the past repeat before their eyes. The same mistakes continue to be repeated over and over. Conny hasn't put his stamp in things yet but until he proves he's different it's hard to be confident in change as long as Edwards is ultimately calling the shots.

LOL. Your point has been argued down by every poster that has addressed it. But you dismiss those, smudge some, and move the needle, to claim that you are still right.
It's okay to admit you were wrong and move on.
