I get that your shtick is to dump on everything about the Flames, but you are clearly on an island here.
Pro tip: when you are the ONLY ONE promoting an opinion in the face of UNIVERSAL opposition, this probably means that your opinion is wrong.

Exposing Monahan would not have opened a spot to protect Gio. That’s not how the rules worked.

44 points in his final year as a Panther, and only 3 PP points. Excellent two-way defender, and was the best in the league at denying entries.

I think he's saying the Flames should have traded Gio for a return and exposed Monahan such that Seattle would take him over a guy like Kylington.
Which is an easy decision to make now, yeas in the future. At the time NO ONE was saying Monahan should be exposed.
It's an idiotic argument.

Okay maybe you're right. Can you provide a few trade examples that would show this? 3 top tier young assets for a player similar to Weegs

Well you can prove me wrong. List 5 examples of trades where a similar player to Weegar was moved for a substantial package

Hamonic - first and 2 seconds
Chychrun - first and 2 seconds
Lindholm - first and two seconds and two prospects
Ekholm - first round pick, first round pick prospect, fourth round pick
That was just off the top of my head. The value is clearly there, and him being signed long term at that price only increases his value.

There were many reports that the Sens were trying to get Weegar at the deadline

If any team gives Hanifin 8+ they are going to sorely regret that. Would not have expected that type of number being thrown around for him based on his actual play.

Players like Weegar simply don’t get traded very often.

Muzzin might be a decent comparable at the time of his trade (Jan 28, 2019) for Carl Grundstrom, Sean Durzi, and a 2019 1rst rd pick

It's nice if we get a blue chip prospect and draft picks.
I'm sure teams will not trade their future star players for our guys. I mean the prospect we get may be become Lindholms or Hanifins. But we need couple elite talents to build a team.
So I hope we can get 1sts more. And also Flames play exciting hockey but hope draft top 3 a couple years.

Hamonic and Chychrun were in their early 20s so not very comparable. Ekholm you get a late 1st but you also got a cap dump of Tyson Barrie. Ekholm is also only signed for 3 more years not 8 more years. Lindholm is a decent example. So sure if you find a desperate contender maybe you can flip Weegar for a late 1st. But with 8 years remaining on his deal that would likely deter a lot of contenders with very limited cap space.

Rules:
Protect any 8 Players or 7F, 3D, 1G.
Exposing Monahan protects another Forward.

Chychrun is 25
Ekholm is 33, when Weegar is that age he will have 4 years left...Weegar also has less miles on him
You could get a first for Weegar in about 10 seconds from multiple teams, the pluses would decide where he went

Insane to me that people still don’t understand this. Saying the Flames lost Gio for nothing actually hurts the argument they’re trying to make.

Gio was a great free cap dump...didn't he make like 6.7!
The Flames won the division and were second overall that season he left too. Gio is nice for the Leafs making 800k or whatever but he wasn't gonna do that here.

Again, I see the 8 years being an issue.
But sure, maybe you can get a late 1st for him and some scraps. Still proves my original point, which is you wasted Tkachuk. They should have gone after one solid young player, not two vets who needed retirement contracts.
