No, Weegar would return a 1st easily, if not 1st +.

You’re insane if you think otherwise.

Being critical of that trade doesn’t even make sense to me. If you want to argue it, argue the extensions and the difficulties of last season.

But if that trade were to happen, without the extensions, the Flames right after that trade could have easily turned that into:

- 1st from FLA
- Schwindt
- 1st + + for Huberdeau
- 1st for Weegar

It was a great trade. Then stuff happened.

I am glad that Conroy is putting pressure on the 2024 free agents. That shows learning from Gaudreau. It still sounds to me that they took the best deal available for Matthew. That is what I want the Flames to do. When trading take the best deal available, grow your asset base through the draft, retain top players, sell players who are not core pieces and inject youth into the line up.

We can disagree on the best way forward. If you mock the team you follow for trying to win games then I think we are talking past each other.

Are you out of your mind? Weegar is a top pairing defenseman, and any trade return would reflect that.

Weegar is worth more than Hanifin, which should suggest a range of potential value.

Yeah, Weegar and Hubderdeau aren't the same. Weegar actually has a reasonable contract.

I think you're out of your mind. There isn't a chance in hell Weegar would return more than Hanifin. He's had one half decent season on a Florida team that lead the league in scoring that year. If anyone is giving a 1st for Weegar you take that and run. No one is offering that though.

Weegar is better than Hanifin and is signed to a better contract than what Hanifin is gonna ask for

I’d take Weegar at 6.25 over Hanifin at 8+ any day of the week.

Weegar’s point totals took a plunge this past season, a long with many other players. Coming in to this season, he was one of the top-10 best defensemen in the LEAGUE. That’s not hyperbole, either.

You could easily get 3 top tier young assets for Weegs, easily.
