I lost interest in the Young Guns era and I feel it will be the same with the casual fans now. If it's not exciting or entertaining, it could tough for STH's to sell tickets to games they can't go to.

I remember back to the early 2000s. I probably went to 20 home games because my companies sales group couldn’t give tickets away. The 2004 run ended that.
I see another era of not being able to give tickets away coming.

Being a Seahawks fan, last season was suppose to be rock bottom for the franchise and in the off-season fully embraced being a terrible team to stockpile picks and rebuild.
Then the season came and they played the games and surprised everyone
Here’s hoping the Flames pull it off as well!!!

I'm all for a rebuild, but it sucks that a rebuild is 4-6 years and we have Huby for another 8 years. Hopefully he has a bounce back season and the flames can dump him.
I'm also not going to be renewing both sets of season tickets through the rebuild. And if I'm dropping a set, it's probably the golds and not the greens.
Im willing to bet that most people clamoring for a rebuild aren't holding season tickets.

That was already this season though. I couldn't give tickets away while the Flames were still in the playoff hunt

That;s what happened on the last rebuild. You just end up with a mediocre team for a decade. Once a rebuild team reaches the playoffs, the expectation is that a team is done rebuilding. Then, you start selling off assets to get older players to try and win right away. We;ve been down that road twice! The results are mediocre with a couple of good excitement to keep you yearnig but nothing comes of anything!

I'm all for a full rebuild and retooling of the team for the future but I really wish this was being led by a veteran management team and coaching staff. A couple bad moves could set this team back for half a dozen years of mediocrity and none of us want to see that.

Outside of most of CP and r/calgaryflames, I can't imagine most casual fans, let alone Calgarians, really care about a rebuild and what it entails. Most want to see a competitive team but likely fail to realize that that means losing for a quite a few years before becoming competitive.
The minor hockey league coaches who bring their teams to games aren't going to be relaying the message to kids about a rebuild. The corporate clients in the VIP suites aren't going to care. The casual fan who shows up to 1 game or 2 a year isn't going to care that game 44 was a learning experience for the team. Only that they lost. Nevermind ownership who can say all they want that they want to build a winner, yet probably cringes at their boardroom meetings when they see attendance and revenue down. "Don't worry, they will be competitive in 4-5 years!".
Nah, most people in this city outside of the hardcore fans couldn't care less what a rebuild entails and simply want to see some kind of '04 miracle run. I pity our newly appointed GM who I'm sure has his own vision of making this happen, yet has his marching orders from the top.

what's funny is that people have this view that a bunch of rookies and young players that you'd get in a rebuild mean the team will be bad and building half empty.
I actually don't really think that's the norm anymore with parity these days. Lots of young players coming up are better than their predecessors and players just seem to be getting better and better and better with each generation. So, you're likely to be better overall too as well as have a brighter future.

You have the perfect excuse now. Like never before, it's time. I'll watch the team with more interest this year for sure. Bring on the youth!

I think the 2014 to 2016 era was different because we were rebuilding/retooling, fans can get behind a strategy and drafting good young prospects in the top 10 is the reward for all the suck. The late nineties early 2000's was a fan base pissed off that there was no plan, just make the playoffs and could not even attract UFA's, that is a poor recipe for fan engagement.
Our recent rebuild failed that happens and maybe there is some lessons there for the new management to avoid, lets have a plan and try it again, we know the other strategy doesn't work either.
I'm fully behind a full rebuild, gotta suck for awhile, that's normal.

And that would be different from most of the last 30 or so years how?

Fans need a reason to come to the games, before last season it was to see Gaudreau/Tkachuck and the previous core that we built over the last 5-10 years.
Now, without significant change we have a bunch of mercenary's and vets coming up on the wrong side of 30. Some young players coming up also, but none with the exception of maybe Wolf are looking like potential "stars".
Rebuilding and drafting future potential star players is the best thing the organization can hope for right now if they're being honest with themselves. Get the picks, draft high skill and potential, and run with what you've got. If they play hard and actually look like they have a pulse next year, they'll still get the casual fans showing up IMO.

No hockey trades!
You have 4 excellent trade chips. A perfect opportunity to pivot and get young and talented in a matter of weeks/months. Don't #### around Connie.
