Reading all of the takes, it really sounds like he’s not willing to extend now. Conroy reportedly is in “sign now or ship out” mode, which I fully support. But a player not wanting to extend a year early after a mediocre season for the team, isn’t the same as just wanting out period.
Hanifin likely, and rightfully in my opinion, doesn’t want to sign anything until next off-season. But yeah the truth is none of us really know, so saying anything is certain is silly.

As far as trades go and getting maybe higher than average value is the fact this year's UFA crop was weak as heck to begin with and will get worse the more players re-sign with teams.
Conny has a strong strong window to make some real changes and perhaps come out ahead.

From what I’ve observed I find that people dislike and like insiders based on if they like or don’t like the information they put out there. A guy like Seravalli can definitely be click-baitey and like to stir up drama. But he’s been right a lot of the time. People make it seem like he’s Pagnotta who’s Eklund bad

If reading reports from different sources that this years UFA options are dog s#!t, which they mostly are, then players like Hanifin should net us a good haul. Well I hope so.

Yeah, but that is easy in hockey. "Offside" in soccer is just a made up idea that makes no sense to anyone.

Want out or want to stay, I don't really care at this point. Just pick one or the other and don't try to string us along . If Hanifin is saying he won't extend or even wants out sooner, then thank you to him for at least being 100% clear about it.

Except if he says so publicly the Flames lose trade bargaining power.

I have no doubt that Seravalli gets inside scoops and generally has good intuition for what is possible or likely to happen. He loves to stir the pot though, especially with the Flames. Or at least he did when Sutter was still around. He seemed to chill out a little since then and has been more positive about the team.
Having said that, Seravalli also said that he believes there could be a market for Kadri given the upcoming UFA market. A few teams wanted him last season and might be willing to circle back now with fewer options on the table. Not that I am a Kadri hater like a lot of people around here (I thought he was close to living up to expectations on a team where most didn't), but if we could get a redo with that cap space and something back for him, it wouldn't be the worst thing.

It's pretty common around here, don't like the message, attack the messenger

Seattle makes sense as the frontrunner. American team on the upswing, Francis drafted Hanifin, and they have three second-round picks this year.
I'd have great interest in a package around pick 20 + one of those seconds + a prospect in the realm of Kartye/Firkus/Evans.

I don't think it lessens the bargaining power on the Flames that much, to be honest. Any team who is trading for Hanifin would want to be talking extension, so knowing the teams he's willing to extend with will help both teams IMO.

Lol and here we go. Some actually thought he wanted to stay based on some lip service during exit interviews Infront of the media.

It's more the notion that the Flames HAVE to get a trade, as opposed to being open to keeping him. If you are forced to sell your car, I'm offering less than if you are 50-50 on it.

If he is unsigned and Conroy is pitching him in offers to other teams, it would be pretty obvious to the other GM what is going on.
I think the only time something like that really decreases the trade value is if there is only one willing trade partner. With someone like Hanifin, I think there will be multiple teams interested so fair market value would apply.

I stand to be corrected but he can't sign until after July 1, correct? And Conroy has all year to extend him.

Only matters if you are the only one wanting to buy that car
The other GMs will set the market price and if it isn’t good enough call the bluff and deal him at the deadline to someone desperate (taking a risk he gets injured though)

I actually think losing Hanifin is less of a blow to the Flames than losing Lindholm. I feel like Flames defence is deep enough to absorb it, plus, as much as I like Hanifin, he's more of a 2nd pairing dman if I'm being honest.
The fact that he's young, coupled with a bad UFA crop this year, I'm optimistic we can get quite a lot for him. This will be Connie's first big move, so I hope he gets us something good.
