They still did it, with a franchise guy. And Patches got zero return. They did it with Schmidt as well, and he had several years.
But I think Stone will end up LTIRing. Marchessault and Smith are one and two years away - don't be surprised if they resign for less or get moved. Eichel will only be 29 when his contract comes up.
Karlsson is a longer one and so is Pietrangelo. But I don't even think those ones are unmanageable.

And why players like Monahan have shortened careers. Change is needed.

Didn't noodles play with a broken sternum? That's ridiculous for a goalie.

The Ron thing is so annoying. How much longer do we have to put up with his rambling about things that are irrelevant, not to mention the Oilers and Conna?
And the SN montage was great as usual but Gordon Lightfoot, really? What does that song have to do with the playoffs? Only in Canada eh, the most insecure country on earth.

The rah rah Canada act was so embarrassing last night.
Honestly nobody but these old guys care about the last time a Canadian team won a cup, or think it's a bigger deal for a Canadian to win the cup (thankfully that embarrassing question was shut down by the player).

Don't look now the Liberals are going to pass the Rah Rah Canada Act, 2023.

Every round is a completely new entity. And by the 4th round, teams are really beat up, and sometimes run out of gas. FLA had nothing left for this series - nothing. Not their fault, not a criticism, just what it is. So to try and infer that your team did better against Vegas (and is somehow better, as a result), is as pointless as it is embarrassing.
|
Yeah, well said. I don't think Florida in the finals came close to playing at the level they did in the earlier series and would've probably been a fairly easy out for many teams at this point. So many key guys with major injuries and they simply didn't have the depth to make up for it this year like they did last year. Like you said, ran out of gas.

After the first round there wasn't a lot of drama in the playoffs. The East had two 5 game series and a 4 plus the Cup only being 5. So that's a pretty low total of games. The West was a bit more compelling in round 2, and had Dallas got one of the first two games that series could have been more interesting.

the CRTC should pass the CANCONNHL act requiring that 25% of all playoff games includes Canadian Team Content.

Every one of early exits for the Flames in the last 6 years where they did make the playoffs, he's either concussed or something is broken.

Yeah he seems a bit injury prone, same with Bennett. It's a bit concerning with those guys.

Tkachuk didn't learn from the past. Bit off more than he could chew laying out Eichel like a freight train. He had to know retribution would be coming, and his body is a bit on the fragile side.
Should've kept his head down and just focused on making things happen around the net.
Must have been mentally agonizing for him to watch from the bench then the press box in games 4 and 5.
Another learning experience for Chucky. Not sure he will see a finals to redeem that any time soon though.. that run was as Cinderella run as they come.

To add to this, I was getting really annoyed with the player interviews.

Old people like to talk and reminisce about dead people.
There's a time and place, though. But assuredly these 20-something players don't GAF about Ron's sentiments, and likely neither does the panel. They just let him go off and tolerate it at this point.
He's incompetent these days even without the Oilers milking, mostly because his rambles don't make sense and seem irrelevant to the story or game at hand. Add in the shoehorning of the Oilers into every discussion and it's just terrible national TV hosting by a washed up guy who's way too big of a fan of one team for his own good.

What's wrong with using a Canadian legend as the playoff soundtrack?
The song mentions heroes and losing, and the pain of that. Pretty fitting for a best on best tournament where 1 of 16 teams gets all the glory.
Don't know where you get insecurity out any of that.

Friedman is the worst for awkward and inappropriate interview things. As if Friedman's weird whispery close talking isn't bad enough at the best of times, when he leaned in to Kelly McCrimmon and in a a very low and ominous voice said; "Brad's name is on the Cup, now your name is on the Cup", that was kind of annoying. Here is Kelly McCrimmon enjoying something that made him really happy in that moment, and Elliot had remind him that his brother died in a fiery plane crash, and almost made the man cry on the spot.
Do we really have to do things like that just to make for interesting television?
