Must be nice being a Knights fan. 6 years in existence and you've already crowned yourself champion, 2 SCF appearances, 4 conference finals appearances, and a good team for years to come. Eichel, Pietrangelo, and top end wingers that are going to keep them competitive for a while. As an attractive UFA destination, they are becoming the Rangers of the West where they will never have problems signing players. They will be able to sign them to reasonable deals which is actually something NYR can't brag about. It's going to be a while before they actually rebuild. The only way they would is if they were forced to by a very good division. Can't say the Pacific is a "strong division", yet.

I don't know, most of there best players are not particularly young.

That is beyond crazy. How can he even do that, even if he's shot up with whatever they need to give him to play somewhat comfortably?

I saw the interview with Maurice where he said that Tkachuk didn't even dress himself for Game 4. Somebody put all his gear on for him and then he was in really rough shape the day after...

I just saw a tweet that he also has 4 cracked ribs....

Yeah this is right up there with Forsberg finishing Game 7 vs the Kings with a ruptured spleen. (Edit: I mean, maybe not exactly the same. The ruptured spleen thing still sounds so unbelievable even to this day whenever it comes up. But it's pretty close, at least in terms of "how the hell were you able to do that")

Colorado Avalanche center Peter Forsberg will be sidelined the rest of the Stanley Cup playoffs after having emergency surgery Thursday morning to remove his spleen and stem internal bleeding.

Forsberg had an assist in the Avalanche’s 5-1 victory over the Kings Wednesday in the seventh game of their second-round series, giving him four goals and 14 points in 11 games. He talked to reporters afterward with no sign anything was amiss, but he complained of stomach pains when he met teammates and club executives at a local restaurant.

“We sent him right to the hospital,” Avalanche General Manager Pierre Lacroix said. “They made the final decision to operate at about 3:15 a.m.”

Doctors found his spleen had been ruptured and performed a two-hour operation at Rose Medical Center in Denver. He will remain there indefinitely but is expected to fully recover by next season.

Lots of great games, series, drama and performances by players in memorable ways.
Watching the Oilers lose again was fantastic and there was quite a few series that really pulled me in this year, particularly in rounds 1&2.

I also had a lot of fun watching this year's playoffs. The 4th round was a bit of a let down compared to what came before because the series wasn't closer but it didn't hamper my enjoyment. I still enjoyed the Cup Final.

It's honestly baffling why it's even allowed. Why are we allowing these them play through injuries that could cause long term health issues if not addressed?

I guess ultimately it's the player's choice if he can/wants to play. It's overall part of hockey culture isn't it? Play through your injuries, tough it out!

I had a blast through the first three rounds for sure. Sucked to see Florida lose at the end of all that, but even worse (for me, of course) was seeing Vegas win.

Thing is it probably shouldn't be the players choice.

Playing through a fractured sternum, and 4 cracked ribs shouldn't be allowed even if the player really wants to play.

This is why guys end up having issues with pain medication addiction, etc

I wonder about this. Like is it really culture-based or is it that hockey players are just tougher in general?

Like they grow up on ice wearing razor sharp blades on their feet, chasing an extremely hard object around that (over time) starts flying around at greater and greater velocities. Then there's that whole thing of two people colliding together at much higher speeds than a linebacker can run... or perhaps even worse, getting slammed into boards repeatedly every game.

For sure, there's a bit of heroism in any athlete playing through something when the going gets tough... but when the basketball world is astonished by Steve Nash finishing a game with a broken nose and you compare that to hockey players playing on broken feet, dislocated shoulders, cracked ribs, broken sternums, ruptured spleens, etc etc....

It's culture based IMO.

People make fun of those other sports constantly. People are also shamed at times if you don't play through injuries.

Some of it sure is these guys are just tougher maybe and have high pain tolerance. And I think for some type of injuries that is fine.

But at some point these teams need to protect these guys from themselves when you're getting into the things that guys like Tanev, Tkachuk, Monahan etc have played through before.

After the first dislocation I figured out how to pop it back in, and the pain was never as bad as the first time, nor did the strength fully return. After popping it out probably once a month for the next 4 years afterwards, I really avoided movements that would make the shoulder dislocate, and it actually got better and strong again without surgery. Still never full but when my name came up for surgery after several years of waiting I decided it wasn’t worth it at that point anymore.

So... a liquid diet now?
