I agree, I’ve never understood the love for Newhook. He’s all speed, and apparently not much else. Plus, we can’t take too many more smallish players, whether some posters like it or not.

I can't imagine why a young player couldn't produce while playing with such amazing offensive stalwarts as checks notes Evan Rodrigues and the empty husk of Valeri Nikuschkin

Are you going to do this everytime I post something I hear? It got old awhile ago. I guess I had the right idea before and will just not put out what I am hearing. Not worth the hassle.

I’d easily do Hanifin for 2023/2024 1st and Schneider. That’s it.

Roll with Weegar - Andersson / Zadorov - Schneider / Kylington - Tanev.

I’m a firm believer in Schneider, even to the point where he could fight Andersson for top pairing minutes down the road.
Did we trade our pick to the Rangers so they could select Schneider?

Correct. I really wanted him or Mercer.

Yes. We acquired the Jeremie Poirier selection by initially trading down the first time.

Will be interesting to see what Lindholm returns if he goes. Can see a team out of left field scooping him and hoping they can get him re-signed.

Before his scooter accident, he was our best player. He's a #2.

If they are dumping Hanifin for forward help I hope they keep Stecher around. I thought he was great in his brief audition last year. At a fraction of Hanifin’s price tag.

He’s our number 2, on a really good team I don’t think he is simply based on his size the the physical needs of a top guy. Again, his quickness negates some of his pick battle losses. On the flames I’d put capability wise in this order: 1) Weegar 2) Hanifin 3) Tanev/ Andersson. Tanev is number one if he wasn’t injured all the time

Man, im just teasing. You're all about absolutes. Why bother guaranteeing something you couldn't possibly know or guarantee?

Or in this most recent case, being absolutely shocked? Why? What shocks you about this very real scenario of trading Lindholm, something that multiple pundits even now have reported is a likely scenario if he won't sign long term?

6'1''' 202 lbs (and getting heavier) is not undersized for the NHL right now. Andersson is still getting physically stronger and looks to have all the pieces to be a top pairing d-man with offence. The NHL has changed and fast skating d-men who can contribute offensively are a must.

No, he's better then Hanifin and is #2 on a lot of teams.

Andersson is a solid #2. Definitely not a 1 though. I think Weegar is our #1 dman for a while until someone can surpass him.

If this turns into a rebuild more than a retool due to virtually all of the 2024 UFAs wanting to move on, the flames could potentially be very aggressive:

A) Trade Hanifin to St. Louis for 10th overall + Parayko (taking on the cap dump makes Hanifin worth more).
B) Trade Lindholm to Detroit for 17th overall + 42nd overall + Filip Zadina.
C) Trade Backlund to Carolina for 30th overall.
D) Keep toffoli and tanev to trade them at the TDL when they will be at peak value (hopefully).

That’s four picks in the top 30 of the draft.

If it’s more of a retool:

A) Trade Hanifin to Buffalo for 13th overall.
B) Trade Lindholm (who signs an extension) + Toffoli to Carolina for Seth Jarvis + 30th overall + 62nd overall.
C) Sign Backlund to 3 year extension and give him the captaincy.
D) Keep Tanev for the year. If not in a playoff spot, trade him at the deadline when he is worth more (hopefully).

That’s 3 picks in the top 30 of the draft plus a young centre who hopefully is ready to take the next step in Jarvis.

Under the “retool” scenario, you roll into next season with:

Huberdeau-Jarvis-Coronato
Mangiapane-Kadri-Phillips
Pelletier-Backlund-Coleman
Dube-Ruzicka-Duehr

Andersson-Weegar
Tanev-Kyllington
Stetcher-Zadorov
Stone

Markstrom
Vladar (traded during camp or early in the season when teams need a goalie due to injury)
Wolf

That should slow things down if Lindholm is going to need to find a new agent.

I just thought Sec's post meant "make a decision either way now". This aligns with what Seravalli said on barn burner today, "signed or traded by draft week".

Well the number is not possible unless there is a market for Markstrom or Kadri.
