That is basically what all UFAs go for though. I don't think Lindholm returns a similar player to him. The only ones that might be available are Scheifele or Dubois

Yeah, I think a lot of people are going to be really disappointed when they see what he actually gets traded for, if he gets traded of course.

Everything I have heard points to Conroy wanting to sign him and thinking he can.

That's going to be a lot of players making a lot of money in their mid to late 30s. Hopefully, Conroy has a long-term plan.

I would trade Lindholm for Silligner, 22nd and 2nd or 3rd round pick in this years draft

Eric Francis was on a Leafs podcast talking to them about what to expect in Treliving and he is betting that Vladar is a starter this coming season. I don't believe he said explicitly that it would be in Toronto or Calgary, but I think he was implying that Tre would trade for him. I can't imagine the return would be much though looking at historical backup goalie trades, but it would free up cap assuming Flames don't take a contract back.

People always say this and then the player gets decent value back. Didn't people say the same thing about Tkachuk?

All UFA's with a year left and an awesome cap hit? Or UFA's at the deadline? There's a big difference.

Flames simply cannot afford to give Lindholm 8.5x anything really, as I pointed out previously they have over half their cap next year locked into 6 guys over 30 and all for 3-8 more years.
This is the PRIME time to move on from 3-4 guys and get younger while remaining somewhat competitive. I’m fairly certain that if you look at our crop of UFAs after this year at least half are gone before the season starts:
In order of who moves the easiest and for the most:
Lindholm
Hanifin
Backlund
Toffoli
Zadorov
Tanev

I don't think there is much difference but Duchene was the closest and the Avs got a lot of meh outside of hitting it lucky on the pick.

I believe more in Vladar becoming a #1, than in Markstrom bouncing back in any real significant way.

I do think Vladar has starter potential and I do think the Flames should consider capitalizing on that. I think Vladar has another gear and can be an excellent, excellent goalie. I wouldn’t trade him in-conference and I would try to get picks back, maybe a 2nd or something.

Perhaps we acquire Murray and then LTIR him. Frees up space and Wolf has a spot. I don’t see Murray coming back any time soon, and if he does he is very injury prone.

It was a great trade. They got the 1st which they lucked out with, they got Bowers, who basically busted due to injury but at the time was a decently-regarded 1st round pick, they got a third, they got a decent depth guy in Kamenev (who went back home) but was another decently-regarded prospect, they got Girard, who is a top 4 guy.
That's pretty good for a guy who hadn't cracked 60 points in 3 years at the time.

I was ecstatic when we aquired Vladar, and I still think he has more to show. I’m in the “give Wolf another year at least, with some call-ups” camp.

A Trade to Columbus involving Lindholm and Markstrom makes a lot of sense as it would give Lindholm a greater incentive to sign an extension in Columbus.

Not to mention incentive for markstrom to waive his NMC.

You would probably have to at least take Elvis back.

I don't remember anyone saying that, but maybe some did. For sure a lot of people underrated him.
Big difference between a 24 year old and 28 year old though when it comes to value.
