I like the idea of adding texier
Lindholm and 16
For
3 and Texier
Move backlund and you got the following at center
Leo
Kadri
Dube
Texier

Zero percent chance that the jackets accept this.
The 3rd overall pick isn't on the table.

If Lindholm says he is out either way then I can’t see the Flames running him to UFA and they won’t trade him at the deadline if they are in the playoff race. UFAs don’t usually return anything stupid. If the Flames had the third overall no way would I want them to trade for for Lindholm.

Especially for a soon to be 29 year old as the key to the return. You just shouldn’t do that.

The painful part is this team may believe they’re in win mode, but they don’t have the roster to win. I hope the move to Conroy as GM brings that realization. This roster is that of a bubble team at best. Not a Florida Panthers style bubble team that’s caused by a bad season but still rocking a strong foundation (Ekblad, Tkachuk, Barkov), but more of a Winnipeg Jets style bubble team with a poor foundation and a hope of just getting in.

That's exactly how I see it.
If I were Columbus I wouldn't consider that trade at all.
Leo is coming in on an ELC, will likely be productive in two to three years and will be cost controlled until he is around 25.
Lindholm is looking to cash in and is already in his prime. Lindholm will likely out produce Leo for the next 5 years but after that it shouldn't be close.
Makes very little sense for Columbus.

I still think we will see Lindholm sign an 8.5 x 8 year deal.
Everything I have heard points to Conroy wanting to sign him and thinking he can.

At least until it's used to draft a player. But then what purpose does that player serve being placed on a table?

And then Aaron Portzline (53,000 followers) suggested Calgary might be able to land the No. 3 pick from Columbus in a deal for Elias Lindholm.
I still doubt the pick is traded, but it seems that the pick could conceivably be on the table. However, if Columbus is hiring Babcock, then I really doubt that Lindholm would want to remain in Columbus moving forward.

While I could conceivably see them moving that pick, I expect it would be for a younger player with more years of control, than an older one that would need a long term contract at big bucks as part of the deal.
Also, nothing seems to point to Calgary looking to get younger, better and cheaper. If they feel they need to move Lindholm, I expect it will be for more current assets.

I’m guessing Babcock being hired isn’t going to entice Lindholm to sign a contract extension there. And with that, the Jackets aren’t going to pay a high price if he isn’t extended.

There was a report that St. Louis is willing to trade their 29th and 30th picks for a youngish player (25 or so), not a defenseman, with team control.
I don't think the Flames have anyone who fits the bill though.

Carlson would play next year and the Flames could still be a strong team next year if guys like Huberdeau and Markstrom bounce back.

I guess with Babcock hired, this might shut the door on a Lindholm extension to facilitate a trade to CBJ...

I don’t think Babcock at all blocks a Lindholm trade to Columbus.
His friendship with Johnny is stronger than most of us know, they became really close over the last 2 year and we’re hoping to continue to play together.
There’s definitely a ton of smoke and with Babcock looking to compete more than rebuild I think it helps the chances more than it hurts.

No thanks an 8 year deal is what we need to get away from for someone who will be 29 next season.

Then phrase it as an opinion, not as a definitive. Trust me, I used to make that mistake too and other posters ripped into me for it. Just add imo to it so people are not thinking you heard it from a news source.

Correct me if wrong, but doesn’t Babcock like defensive-responsible forwards? Perhaps he could give Lindholm some Datsyuk-like pointers. I think Lindholm would be heavily utilized in Columbus. And a Gaudreau/Lindholm duo is hard to pass up. I hope in the very least Conroy is bothering Columbus about the 3rd OA pick.

I'd be sad if Lindholm went for Sillinger and 22nd overall. I'm sure we can do better then that. And if that is the best we can do, I'd sooner see a hockey trade that brings in a good player.

I don’t think it will matter, cuz Babs will have to be somewhat kinder and gentler going forward if he wants to keep his job, and avoid being cancelled again. I’m sure the media will be watching for him to slip up.
