Who lost? This isn’t a sport. The person I voted for won, but I neither won or lost. You understand this isn’t some game, right? This is the government.
I don’t plan on leaving. But I do think it’s funny that you’re still freaking out and trying to cope hard despite feeling like you “won” any time someone says something that scares you.
Maybe it’s you who needs to get over people making their own decisions?

So we consumers pay more, but that money has to go somewhere. Where do you think it ends up?

Sorry, that's not how this works. This isn't a hockey game. This isn't a sport. This is real life and for many Albertans the UCP represent a continued threat to them. People shouldn't "get over it", they need to "get out there". Just because the UCP won the election doesn't mean people need to roll over and deal with it, they can keep fighting for what they believe in.

Pepsi free you were whining in other threads about baby boomers why you couldn’t afford a house I highly doubt you pay more if any taxes.

Oh good, a "who pays more taxes and is therefore entitled to more" argument.

Maybe about them making houses more expensive in general. I own a house with a two-car garage. I’m pretty confident I pay taxes, thanks. How much does a Walmart greeter bring in these days? lol

Excluding the 2015 election this is the weakest mandate a conservative party has had in Alberta since the start of the PC reign in 1971. And even then, the UCP only received 0.5% more of the popular vote than the joint PC/WR count in 2015.
Alberta has never been more progressive than it is today.

As a guy who bought in an already inflated market 10 years ago and is owing less than half my initial on my mortgage, the fact that housing is a bull#### speculative market driven by Boomer expectations of perpetual returns is terrible for our children and the future of North America in general.
Also, #### landlords.

It's a big country, and I guarantee you will like what you find. There is a country outside of Alberta and it's doing just fine.

It must be great out east if you feel you need to post about how bad Alberta and it’s politics are every 10 minutes.

Europe just created import Carbon taxes which apply if a jurisdiction does not have their own. This is the key step that needs to be taken to protect your internal industries when implementing a Carbon Tax. But as jurisdictions create these import Tarrifs carbon taxes will reduce emissions as opposed to moving emissions around. We are approaching the point of these things working and being a global standard.

That's the indoctrination into the life long UCP voters cult. It's easy to say "we won" when you robotically vote for the same party no matter what.

Alberta is lovely. It's politics are not. And after living there for close to four decades with family, community and assets still in the province, I have skin in the game.

The thing is that it is more than just about the government, it is also the environment that the government brings. Governments that lean to the side of bigots and racists encourage that type of person to come forward and be more prominent. Look at the US, Trump came in and encouraged that type of person and now they are running rampant. We are seeing that here as well, not to the level of the US thankfully, but it is growing.
Lots of people see this happening and want to get away from it. We don't want to be around people that look at states like Florida and Texas and say "Yeah, this is what I want here." When this happens it creates a big divide between people and there is much less respect for other people.
Case in point

And yes this is happening in other provinces as well, but it does not seem to be anywhere at the level we are seeing it here.

While I would love to join into the hyperbole about people leaving Alberta in droves, it simply isn't reality. For every Ozy_Flame that leaves to Ontario and claims greener pasture in Ontario, there are 2 immigrating into Alberta. The grass is always greener on the other side. Sometimes it is, sometimes we fool ourselves in thinking it is.
We can look back at these numbers 4 years from and point to Smith's impact (and believe me I do think she will be a disaster), but much like Trudeau, in the grand scheme of things, despite our outrages, politics really doesn't impact day to day life that much. Ironically, in the Ontario subreddit all they do is complain about Ford day in and day out and how he's destroying the province, yet he just recently got voted back in. Social forums tend to be echo chamber on who can be the loudest in order to validate each other.
I mean literally I am reading the subreddit on Ontario right now:
Quote:
Our health care is already dead
Fellow Ontarians who've given up on life - what are you doing.
OPSEU just put out a terrifying, black mirror style ad against healthcare privitization
Hate in Ontario is a linchpin moment
Phone calls no longer covered under OHIP
Arnprior, Ont. ER the latest rural hospital to experience staff shortages
Please vote for healthcare
|
Those aren't cherry picked, these were all in a row at the top, the next few are about Doug Ford and insurance rates
being low about having to pay your own repair bill (lol)
Macroeconomics and quality of life tend to have a higher impact on migration than politics.

I love how the media is still trying to find holes in the UCP and Danielle Smith’s majority win.
That was what was so big about this win the coordinated efforts of all the media to go after her and she still won. It’s why all these liberal whiners are so upset. The deck was set and they still screwed it up and floundered to a loss.
This was a huge win for Canada and the trickle down effects of what’s to come are imeasurable. That’s why our friends out east are nervously watching.

Now tell me what proportion of those moving in vs moving out are specialized workers.
Also LMAO at Yoho being one of those brainworm guys that thinks Postmedia of all outlets "had it in" for the exceptionally pro-corporate UCP

Correct me if I am wrong, but haven't they been in power 4 years already? Where are these immeasurable trickle down effects you speak of?
Three examples will suffice.
