The UCP supporters give almost nothing except vague references to communism (not even close), socialism (<>Venezuela) or in bed with JT (not even close). There is no evidence, and any evidence to the contrary is met with more smoke and vague insinuations. Then they try to gaslight and project that its the left that is "divisive".

It isn't just a mudslinging contest this time, there are actual facts and evidence that show how the NDP are centrist, pragmatic and not at all what the lies make them out to be.

The UCP can't back up any of its claims with hard evidence or track records.
To be clear, I am voting NDP passionately.

That said, I am sympathetic and understanding of the frustrations of rural folks. First, The NDP at best, have not been good faith actors with respect to farmers and have not made inroads on mending mistrust due to lack of consultation on policy that intimately effects home life. Secondly, NDP rhetoric, especially that of its supports is at best pejorative and at worst marginalizing. Thirdly, I am not sure how things work in the city, but rural representatives are actual members of the community who work hard to represent and move resources to the people they serve, again, I do not agree with, or even like my representative, but they are very active in the community in ways that immediately benefit my work. Representation matters.

Politics are not a science it is an art, it is deeply subjective, suggesting that people do not have rational and well formalized reasonings for their political decisions is nothing short of insulting.

The scary thing is the DeSantis approach can get a lot more mileage in a state/province that relies on resource revenue than one relying on retiree cash and vacationers.

I'm curious how far the average Albertan can be be pushed towards socially regressive policies, or if they're just going to frogboil it like they have for the last 4 years.

But I could see how the common rhetoric would cause to the assign the first one to the ANDP.

one would hope, that both parties should strike some level of balance in both priorities no? If UCP win, I would hope we see improvements in healthcare and have a directive to do so. Measured responses just don't seem to be on the table from either side, which is shameful

What is the NDP doing that isn't a measured response?

If I recall they made lots of investment in people, made lots of investment the Energy Sector and lots of investment in diversifying...

What more did you want?

Considering that the ucp is very transparent in what they are doing to healthcare, what gives you hope there will be improvements if they are elected? Like, what they are doing is their mandate, when you vote for a political party you are giving the reigns to them. That’s what an election is for. This is nonsense like voting for your ucp mla who promises to reign in smith or to try and quietly replace her later. Why do that when you can just…kick them out of office and actually have a government who, at the bare minimum, is giving you lip service that they will improve things?

The UCP have contributed to the destruction of our healthcare system, and Smith has disdain for doctors and healthcare professionals. What in her and the UCP's past gives you this hopefulness? The privatization part? The war with doctors? The telling them "we tried listening to the experts, we aren't going to do that anymore" bit? The giving tax dollars to woo-woo practitioners? The rural ER and hospital closures? 15 hour wait times?

I think the feeling you are going to experience is known as regret.

I can't remember how the Advanced results were reported previously but does anyone know if those will be reported right at 8 or shortly thereafter? Those numbers should be available right away because they are already tabulated or they should be tabulated/aggregated in a matter of seconds with the click of a mouse at 8pm.

I had heard the advanced votes with come in very fast +/- 8:15, and the day of votes should be rolling in /- 9:00.
In theory they election should be called before the late night news, but we could end up with the deciding vote being well within the recount margin.

The Strategists podcast, speculated that the advanced vote leaded heavy to NDP, and we should expect to see them jump to an early lead that will slowly drop off, the question is how far will it drop.

Yeah, you're exactly right about that. From what I've read, tabulating machines are unlocked at 8pm, returning officers print out the results and send them to electronically to elections alberta, and those will be posted as they are returned.

What gives you hope the NDP will be able to provide the experience you expect? did they make the system better when in power and give us a strong foundation leading up to the pandemic? no. Did they have the Health system performing at optimum while in power? no. I am far from giving the UCP a pass for the condition the healthcare system is in, there needs to be a large amount of change. Both sides have campaign platforms running on strengthening Health care, I just done expect either to be able to deliver. The system is broken, and needs to be torn down and rebuild (like the flames). Retool is all we can expect.

What handouts do you think their supporters are expecting?

Not trying to be critical, just affording you the opportunity to back up the things that you are stating as facts.

Can you clarify what you expect needs to be done in less vague terms?

Really just trying to get a sense of where you’re coming from and what you realistically expect needs to happen.

The hope comes from the fact that they want to fix the existing system.

When the UPCs explicitly stated goal is to undermine the existing system so that they can sell it off piecemeal to private interests, until it can not longer function as an institution. because they have the misguided belief that by injecting profits into the medical industry you will get cheaper and higher quality care.
