Unwise for the team to go with another coach with a short shelf life, unless they want to sign him for 1-2 seasons. Gallant also doesn't mesh with his GMs, so it would go against the "team" dynamic Connie was talking about instilling.
But sure, grant him an interview to provide a bit of contrast among the candidates.

If it is Gallant, that may tell us how much pull people like Nonis and Maloney have compared to Conroy.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Love, with Wolf and a bunch of kids expected to make the jump this coming season.

Young Norris calibre dmen dont grow on trees. The moment it was understood that you didn't control the asset, his value declined.
Drafting for assets is less effective if the asset has no real interest in a long term future with the team.

I'm glad to hear that Conroy thinks the good draft and a young players are one of the main reasons to build a strong team with a long window to win the cup.
As he said like Tampa, the flames need really young and talented core players with a potential to carry this team next 5-10 years to have a chance to win.
At the moment we have:
Potential core players - Pelletier, Wolf, Coronato, Poirier and may be one of Solovyov or Kuznetsov?
May be good and support players - Andersson, Dube, Zary, Duehr, Ruzicka, Phillips.
If 3-4 of these 12 players become really core players, we still need another 3-4 players to add on them.
I hope we can get some really good prospects and high draft picks from Lindholm, Hanifin, Backlund, Toffoli or Tanev trades.

They made the right choice ultimately with their GM, I don't think they'll mess it up with the coach.

After I listen all the interviews and opinions on the Fan960, Conroy and the management team will look for a coach who can bring a positive energy who will pay more attention in team play and players than results.
So I think one Huska, Love or Tanguay will be next coach, who will be a rookie coach but has a experience in working with younger players.

I don’t think a fan base could ask for a fresher start as far as GM’s go, after near a decade to have a new voice promoting a vision we’ve all as fans have been longing for is a dream come true. Can’t wait to see what Craig does for his first few moves; I like the coaches Newfan just mentioned, I’d like to have all three with Huska taking over as HC, Tanguay running the O and PP and Love looking after the PK and D, I mean sign me up! Exciting days ahead for the Flames, couldn’t be happier or more excited! What a draft year to have 7 pending UFA’s the following year… really hoping we pick 2 to 3 times in the first round this year!!

When he said that the head coach wouldn't necessarily have to have NHL head coaching experience, it leads me to think that they are looking at guys like Tanguay, Savard, Love, and Huska as options. Sure, interview Gallant and see if he blows you away, but definitely do some due diligence on that one. It sounds like he does not work well with others.

At what point in his college career was he identified as a Norris calibre dman?
When has any College prospect been labeled that, regardless of draft position?
Makar? Powers?

Biggest Pro to Conroy being GM: Epic interviews like "today I saw a kid playing with a stick, the stick was like 5 times bigger than him!!!"
Cons to Conroy being GM: Gonna be late for work every day watching his hilarious and awesome pressers.

Savard has been an OHL HC for, what, one season? Tanguay has not been an HC anywhere. I don't see how those names would even come up in a serious discussion about the Flames HC position. It's got to be Love over them easily.
Now if you want one of them to replace Love as Wranglers HC, that's a different discussion. I'd be all for that.

After listening to Nonis’ interview with Pat I’ve warmed up a bit more to him being apart of the management group. Seems like a good guy

His value may have declined but not below anyone they could reasonably have taken otherwise. And I’d argue his value had already declined because of that risk before he was picked, otherwise he’d have been a first rounder.
He’s a bad example.

Not much to add, just wanted to say how happy I am that the Flames hired Conroy. I think it's great for the team and I couldn't be happier with their choice.

2....but both mega successful.
That being said, junior to pro is a massive jump for coaches just like players.
Thats why most start as assistants in the NHL or as HC in the A.

So just to confirm, there was no mention of Iggy whatsoever at the presser right?
It's just been heavily rumored that Conny wants to bring him on.

they asked him about Iginla, and he said they'd talked about it and inferred there could be some kind of future, but nothing official right now.

I also imagine Iginla would rather not have stolen Conroy's day from him. He can have his own announcement.
