Conroy was very impressive answering those questions. There really wasn't much in there that I didn't like, although the "just get in and anything can happen" mantra was in there, however I think if he was calling for a tear-down he wouldn't have gotten the job.
He seems to get that the role of the GM is to be ahead of the game for asset management. Can't be scrambling to fill roles at the beginning of training camps and can't be watching players leave for nothing.
I'm excited to see how he takes this challenge on.

Nonis is a smart hockey guy who's been around the league for years with a lot of experience and connections. Think it's a decent move.

I'll take the dweeb in a heartbeat. Just the PP alone we would have hit 105-110 points last season.
it's crazy that on such a dysfunctional team with all the crap that happened last year we were still in playoff contention until the 2nd last game.

Helps mentoring? I mean, Treliving technically had Burke as a mentor. It doesn’t hurt. Nonis is probably there to give advice because he’s been there done that but ultimately the decision in anything is up to Conroy, assuming he has the permission(s) to do so.

Even Don Maloney said mentoring is not the word. We want Conroy doing what he is best at doing which is so far has been development, prospects, scouting, and building a good atmosphere for the team and a place where prospects can succeed. Nonis has his own connections and he can take over the aspects that he is good at doing and work as a committee to succeed. That may be contracts as one example that Don gave.

Really?
I think he's just genuinely pointing out areas of contrast. Not everything you would do differently from a predecessor has to be a 'shot' at them. You have a different style, it's ok to say so.

Markstrom, Hanifin, Lucic with another 1st rounder. Not sign Kadri.

Specifically the coaching and how it wasn't fun to come to the rink. Speaking of how you're a team and have to work together - coaching and management.

Nonis is fine as an AGM.
Dude gets a bad repuation for his limited time in both Vancouver and Toronto IMO.
Looking back and he had some decent drafts for both those teams.

All sounds good to me. As well as having Nonis and Maloney help out.

I don't think they could do a full rebuild even if they wanted to, not with 3 expensive multi-year contracts that are immoveable and practically buy-out proof.
Having said that, I don't think they would ever use the word "rebuild" even if they were planning a complete overhaul. Canadian teams have enough problems attracting players and the word "rebuild" would just scare them off even more. There is a reason why John Bean jokingly said that he isn't allowed to use that word, and it's not because they don't understand that sometimes you need to take a step back to move two steps forward. It's all a moot point though because this team isn't in a position where it is even feasible at the moment.
I love that Conroy also acknowledged that you need young players on ELCs that can contribute. They have to stop overpaying for depth.

Craig was the one who was "it's done, we're going to get this done" when asked about resigning Johnny. He then said it hit him hard and he sat in his office quietly to think about it.
I think that's a hard lesson that he's now learned that it's not just about the dollar value but you need to manage the perception and how you treat the player the whole time they are in the organization to nudge them back to your side when they are very much on the line and down the wire. Also - better planning and contingencies are needed.

Another unified sentiment from the management team: "Draft and develop" all of them said it at one point, conny said it twice.
