true in isolation, but given his extracurriculars, and 32 by the time next season starts, not sure how marketable he'll be
this season injury and all was on pace for 56 points- as you point out that is actually decent production really, but would be his (tied) career high. interestingly also what Backlund put up this year (also a career high)

He's just not a good guy to have on your team. Off ice aside, he takes penalties, disappears for multiple games, doesn't defend well and disrupts the room.

Man does it ever feel good knowing the Oilers got bounced.

If Kane is not tradeable, Nuge and Hyman have NMC. The options look more to buyout Campbell. Trading Foegele and Yamamoto might get them under but it will depend on Bouchard's deal. If they low ball him I expect Bouchard to take a 1 year deal to get his payday the following year.
Since the Barrie trade:
36 points in 31 games. I expect he will get way overpaid for how good he really is. 2 points at ES in playoffs, he literally scored on the PP and that is it.

TBF, an NMC from the Oilers is just a way of making sure you don't go somewhere almost horrible. It's not a sign they really really want to live in Edmonton. I'm pretty sure Nuge or Hyman would waive for, say, Colorado.

I doubt the Oilers look at either of Hyman or Nuge as someone they plan to move.
If Bouchard gets $6 mil on a 2-year deal, they will have about $700k and 17 guys signed.
My favorite part of all this is you can't trade buyouts and cap overages. Neal's buyout is killing them trying to figure this out. They are probably going to have to spend assets to fix this or do a terrible buyout of Campbell's contract. I can't wait to see what Kenny does.

Leon - 29 shortly after season starts
Ekholm - his birthday is in 9 days so make it 33
Hyman - 31
Kane - 32
They are not a young team anymore.

The Nurse and Campbell contracts were terrible from the get go. These weren't players getting big paydays because they had phenomenal years and now look bad because they regressed. These were WTF contracts from day 1.
I said the moment they signed Campbell that it was too much for a back-up and Skinner would be the #1 goalie for the Oilers by New Year's.

I agree and thought the same thing. I actually argued in the summer that the Smith LTIR stuff was a bad thing for the Oilers.
Bouchard is next IMO. Stats say he should get big money, when I watch him play, I think he is a $4 mil dman at best.
The price of playing the style of hockey the Oilers do and not recognizing who actually contributes and who is just a mooch.

Most places. In the fantasy land Holland lives in where Nurse makes over 9 that $4mil looks more like 6...or 7....or 8....

I know of an Oilers fan always in fantasy land and posted this lineup in a chat:
“Just saw this. Someone hinting at something.
If the Oilers came back in the fall with this line up. Would you be happy with it? #Oilers
Kane McDavid Draisaitl
Holloway RNH Hyman
Kostin McLeod Foegele
Janmark Bjugstad
Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Karlsson
Kulak Gudas
Broberg
Hellebuyck
Skinner
Staffer was talking about it on the radio.”
There is so much wrong with this that I’ve already looked at but am ready to see you guys tear this apart

Yeah, I remember thinking Nurse was a $5-6 million defenseman and fell off my seat when the Oilers gave him over $9 million.
If I am Bouchard, I am looking at Nurse and thinking if that guy, who barely does anything and is a liability a lot of the time, gets >$9 million per season, then I wouldn't want to sign for much less. I realize that just because they made a mistake with the Nurse contract, it isn't an excuse to make another mistake, but I would still be using it as a reference point in negotiations to a degree.

Well, nurse did get bridged a couple of times I think. They heavily overpaid because they knew they had to since he was an upcoming UFA. Bouchard easily gets 6m on a bridge deal.

2 years $6 mil is what I expect. But Bouchard could sign 1 year and try and cash in with worst case scenario he gets traded out of Edmonton which is a win
If he stays healthy I see 80 points next year as possible. I’m Bouchards agent I’m not taking less than 6 unless it’s a 1 year deal

He still had a year left on his contract when they gave him that new deal.

Is that Erik Karlsson who is making $11.5M? And Hellebuyck is $6.1M? How are they fitting them in their cap?

And did they trade Campbell and not have to take anything back for that anchor? Or maybe he is hoping they Mike Smith him next season.
