I don't see the Leafs making a GM change.

I think ownership will want bodies on the tarmac for the quick 2nd round loss to the 8th seed. Maybe it will just be Keefe? Do they break up their core by trading Nylander or Marner? If Matthews refuses an extension is he the guy moved? Does Dubas want to extend there? Many factors at play and one of them is the GM. If Dubas stays then I expect some other huge changes but the fact he isn’t signed this late in the game leads me to believe a change is likely.

Totally agree. Not super elite top end talent, but not much fall off between lines 1 and 4.

Really starting to like Soucy on the back end.

It's half true. They checked hard but they also didn't play the same brand as the other lines they gambled and it paid off. They made high risk plays Tkachuk especially with his blind passes through the NZ do you think that's what Sutter likes?

Johnny's last memory in Calgary is standing doing nothing and losing his check in overtime against Edmonton.

It is factually accurate but you do you. At no time did that line just play the puck back to the point constantly for low danger long distance shots. They looked for high danger passes in the slot. What did the other three lines do stats wise? How did Kopitar in LA go from an offensive beast to Huberdeau like numbers from last year?

Iirc Johnny didn’t lose his check…he covered the guy 80ft from the net leaving the 2ppg player to go 1 on 1 and create a goal.

If anything that was Johnny playing sutter’s system which seemed to involve no adjustments in that series

No adjustments was bizzare and TBH I haven't fully seen the goal just a picture it hurts tol see those losers win.

Those two went off in that series I wonder if he just wanted to let them pile up points and try to win 8-7.

I’ve been seeing quite a few Leafs fans whining about two “irrelevant” markets being in the ECF and how this is gonna hurt the league’s revenue. Maybe, just maybe, the Leafs should’ve beaten the “irrelevant” Panthers

Not for nothing, but the Panthers fan base dwindled after years and years of ineptitude. They've been back pretty consistently ever since the team started to perform well on a regular basis. Put in a long playoff run and it could rejuvenate the market to being consistently strong. The only reason Tampa Bay packs their building every night is because they won on a regular basis. There's no difference in the two markets other than that.

What is this? Gadreau was checking like he never had before, or after.

Every system has players backcheck. Again, at no time did that line just come in and try and cycle around to throw it to the point for a low danger perimeter shot with no traffic. Gaudreau was feeding Lindholm and Tkachuk in the slot, in high danger areas. That is not Sutter system hockey. that is why Lindholm went from 42 goals to 22.

Again, did you ever see Johnny check the way he did that season before or after? The reason they played like that in that season was because they had the personnel on that line that could do that. They weren't playing all offence either in "spite" of Sutter. They were sound defensively too - a trait of Sutter hockey. When 2/3 of that line left of course they won't have a line that plays the same way. Becuase they had no one left capable of it.

I get ragging on Sutter is the in thing right now, but do you honestly believe that the stubborn old farmer would let them play in a way that he didnt support? He would have broken that line up so fast if he didn't like the way they played. Maybe he had a lot to do with how they played, and it showed in both their offensive output and defensive prowess.

Yes I believe the stubborn old farmer let them play that way as he couldn't break them up because of how much they were producing. Actually, there was someone who was on an episode of Flames Talk that actually confirmed that the 1st line played the way they wanted, not how Sutter wanted them to play. If you think Sutter had anything to do with their offensive output you are beyond lost.

I just realized John Tavares is only 33. Thought the guy was at least 3 years older. What a world of hurt the Flames will be in with Huberdeau and Kadri's contracts.

John Stevens on a podcast confirmed that Sutter wasn't happy with that line playing for personal stats.

No one is that dumb to bench or break to a line putting to those numbers playing your system or not.

Who put that line together? Sutter.

Also, why do you always resort to statements like that?
